Closet Organizer Suggestions

Anyone have recommendations for closet organizer systems? Looking for something decent, but not too expensive. Pereferrably something that you install yourself. The wife and I need better use of our space and this seems like the way to go.

I saw a really nice looking system at the Container Store, but it would cost roughly $3k to do 1 closet - no way I'm springing for that. I think we would do a decent Ikea system for closer to $1k, but need to see it in person, as I've only looked online so far.

So - any experiences, good or bad you can share?

Ikea stuff isn't terrible; I think Lowe's has modular units you can buy.. and there's always the rubbermaid wire rack system; that's what our house came with..

Probably the cheapest and easiest - wire racks:

I've used www.easyclosets.com for my kids' closets, three linen closets, my pantry, and my entry closet. Much more customizable than what you get at Home Depot/Lowes.

If you stick with the basic white finish, they are reasonably cheap. And no wire shelves, which I hate with a passion.

I definitely want to stay away from the wire shelves. I like the closet builder app on easyclosets and need to play with it a bit more. Still seems like it might end up a little more expensive that I want, since I don't really want white.

I'll keep them in mind, but keep looking.

When we bought the condo one of the first things I did in the master walk in was to across the street to HD and piece out a closetmaid system. I ripped out the original generic looking shelf/bars and re-finished the walls. Now we have side by side drawers, shelves, 4 bars at various levels, places and she has her giant ass shoe shelves.

I did similar in the office closet expect I just went with wall mounted shelving.

I have been considering going closet maid in the foyer closet to maximize storage, and give myself a shoe shelf

For the master walkin with all wood stuff (I hate wire too) I think it was like $700ish

To the left the shoe shelf...before all the shelves where in of course. Along with upper and lower hanger bars.

Next, 4 drawers with shelving (hers) next to 3 drawers and another hanger bar (mine)

Then, Corner unit shelvings (both of ours) and one last hanger bar for dresses, suits, longer items.

Obviously, that whole closet is now FULLLLLLL!

I was looking at Stolmen. Not sure they have elfa anymore.

I'll look at Closetmaid, too.

Oh. I thought elfa was Ikea. I took a look at the container store site and I didn't see any wood or woodlike drawers, so they are out.

The pics above look good. You only paid ~$700 for all that? If that's the case, I'm headed to HD.

Yeah something like that. Maybe a little more but less then 1000.

Its not the greatest stuff in the world. but it works. and its nice enough for a first condo that will eventually become a rental unit in a few years.

Where there notches at the bottom-back of the shelf units to avoid the base boards and 1/4 round?

No, the the it all sits out from the baseboard...not too much only like a 1/4 of an inch. the you can see the plastic spacers it uses to attach the pieces to the wall. Its pretty solid.

I debated about ripping out the baseboard as well, before install then decided against it.

The feet on the pieces are also adjustable so I was able to get in with a level and get it al striaight before securing it all to the walls.
