Chest Freezer
Chest Freezer
I know they aren't sexy, but I am thinking about getting this one from Home Depot. Anyone have it or have a chest freezer they would recommend? It's going to go in the basement so I really don't care how it looks. I just want something that works and doesn't make a lot of noise. I'm surprised that these things don't seem to be frost free.
I'm not sure I like the temp setting on the front bottom. I could imagine one of my sons cranking on it, or turning it off, and wrecking my food.

Couldn't even tell you who makes ours. Well, I guess I could if I walked into the basement, but anyway...
My point is, they're all going to be pretty much the same. Only thing you need to consider is size, to be honest. Don't get a small one. You'll fill it up in no time.

Not sure of the size of ours either. Decent size. Looks shorter then the one in the pic... but wider. We tried (surprisingly successfully) not to keep it too full so we could get to everything and it has worked out great. We actually kept it in the garage and so far only defrosted it once in 5 years... and only b/c we moved, so we had to unplug it

We've been waiting for a scratch and dent to show up at the Sears Outlet.
get a bigger one for sure.
the one at my house is about 4-5 feet wide, and has sliding baskets on the top, so you can put all the small stuff in those and put big icecream tubs or turkeys at the bottom.
sometimes you might have to dig, but in those smaller ones i could see it being terrible since you'd have to stack things a lot

Tis true. If ours wasn't free we would have likely got an upright. One thing about the chest feezer (for us anyway) is that we found we bought less sh!t to ensure we could access everything in it w/o digging too much. Plus, with just two of us living there, it was never really that full anyway...
