Scrib, does the system also have an built-in smoke detector...? The system I got from Chubb has a smoke detector unit that upon detecting smoke will immediately contact the fire department.

I have 2 units...1 on the main floor (not too close to the kitchen though) and in the basement by the furnace.

 

Yeah, we only used it when we went out of town. We did not use it on a daily basis. The thing is a pain in the ass

Yes.

 

My wife doesn't even turn ours on anymore. The primary use was to alert her when our son was attempting to make a daring escape when he was a toddler.

 

That's exactly how all of our neighbors use theirs!

And lucky for us, should we decide to have kids, that feature still works without the monitoring service...
