Castle or home?

Interesting perspective of price relativity of a dwelling in one place versus what you can buy...elsewhere.

Interesting...

My cousin (visiting for mothers day) from a burb outside of St. Louis was amazed at the housing prices here... A $279K house here goes for around 79K out there.... Same thing in some parts of NC...

So you can get a castle for the price of a home without even leaving the US...

Anyone want my almost-bungalow for $800,000?
Or my mom's 2-bedroom condo for $500,000?
Both those are below current comp prices here in a couple of west L.A. neighborhoods.
Fortunately, both were bought before 2002, when the prices were actually "reasonable." :shakehead

Location is everything.

For about $500K you can get a fairly nice dump of a co-op in NYC or my mom's 6 bedroom, 2 family house in Trinidad.

not to mention heating a castle is kinda pricey with the lack of insulation. Some of those castles that were bought up years ago in france and stuff didnt even have electricity or plumbing put in yet. I still want one and im sure these are updated

Good ideas for a retirement or vacation home though.

Why would anyone want to live with another family

This is usually attached housing of some type. One upstairs, one downstairs or side by side. Some places they are called duplexes.

Sometimes there is one owner for both units as well. Multi-family housing is fairly common lots of places.
