anyone have a knockoff tempurpedic?

I need a new bed. I need a king, and I want a foam one, but I don't want to pay $2600 for a Tempurpedic. I should be able to get a knockoff for around a grand. I know the foam density is less, but I've tried out a few and they still feel pretty damn good. Anyone have one that can give me an idea how they hold up in the long run?

I bought a super soft double pillowtop ultra fluffernutter kingsdown about two months ago and now its killing my back. I think it has a lot to do with my damn dog laying next to me so the bed sinks down and I sleep on an angle... so this time I'm doing my research before buying.

I had one for about 2 years...it eventually started to sink near the center...didn't give enough support. I'd pass on it.

I love my foam. It's cheaper than a Tempur but not cheap. Cost $800 for a cal king and I love it. It's the perfect cushiness for people who think Tempur is too firm or too hot (gets hot during sleep). Got it at Overstock.com and I think it's now only $699 shipped. Great reviews and I really like mine.

In addition to foam look at the Simmons beauty rest line. They use double packed coils. You can get a model with a layer of memory foam on top.

I love mine. 2x firm.

I have one of those bowling ball wine glass mattresses, but that tempurpedic stuff makes me feel weird, My mom has one of those.

we might have a winner.... this is what you've got scl23? it says the top 3 inches are 5 lb density, which is what the tempurpedic is. under that its 2.5 lbs.... and its almost $2,000 cheaper....works for me.

and sarlacc...I was just looking at those in the store. I've been debating between a simmons and the knockoff tempurpedic.

I recommend testing before you buy. I bought a tempurpdeic pillow and returned it after using it for night....i was losing sleep cause of the thing, not getting a better nights rest.

Hope you find what you like.

I dont think adding a topper to a soft bed will firm it up any.

like sarlacc said... this doesn't help my situation.

I have considered buying the cheapest, firmest bed I can find, then just throwing the foam topper on that.

I see a bed as big investment, and is the reason i did not cheap out on my...but i did price shop like mad....simmons stores will price match and then take more off that price if you can find the same model cheaper at another store.

The trick....the same bed at say macys has a different name. and at sears, and elsewhere...all the same models, different names at different stores. I caught onto this and found the bed i wanted at macys cheaper.....got a 1600 matress/box spring set for 900 when all was said and done.

Just gotta take a day to look around and take notes.

But back to my invest rant. I ponied up and bought the bed I did because of my back. I havent slept better since. Simmons 2x firm is pretty close to sleeping on the floor.

I bought the bed I have now for $850 less than 2 months ago. I shopped around, and tested a ton, I thought it was awesome. It seriously has about an 8 inch pillowtop on both sides of the mattress, my bed reaches the ceiling. Anyway, I thought it felt great in the store, now I can't stand it.

Actually its good if I sleep alone, but if my dog or girlfriend are sleeping in it it leans and has craters in it.

I'll check out that Simmons, thanks Sarlacc.

Before I went shopping last time I had no idea you could bargain down mattresses. I thought the price was the price until I heard some other people haggle it down $500. The bed I have now was listed at $2200, on sale for $1700, and I got it for $850. What a scam.

I sleep on the edge of my simmons....it doesnt bow. shit stays flat and solid. They are designed for support from edge to edge. I have no problems when my girlfriend sleeps over.

overstock has the 4 inch foam toppers, in 5lb density foam, for 169. I'm going to get a super firm simmons and put that on top.

done and done

Good stuff...

I've been shopping for a new bedroom set, and I'm hung up on the mattresses...

Simmons is one of my final choices, so it's good to hear good things mentioned about them.

Rootbeer, I thought you'd still be sleeping on the floor

Agreed. Bed is a big time investment in your overall health...gotta go with a nice model. And Simmons is a great brand.

I have a knock off pillow that I got at Target. Love it, and about 1/4 the price.

I ordered this.

http://www.bergad.com/mattress.html

After reading almost every single review on epinions.com, sounds like this is just as good as a tempurpedic, but half the price. Only downside is they ship with "Yellow" and apparently they are incompetent. Should be worth the hassle to save a grand though.

Something I thought was kind of funny...there is a mattress store 1/2 mile from my house. If I buy a $1,000 mattress it will end up costing me $1140 (80 tax + 40 shipping). If I buy a mattress for the same price from Pennsylvania, 3,000 miles away, it gets to my door for $40 cheaper (100 shipping, no tax).

But seriously, make sure to keep us informed on how the bed feels. Mine is due for replacement soon. It's permacratered where I sleep (the dip is about the depth of a human hand with fingers outstretched).

Beet, how do you like your new mattress? Does the 2.5lb density base foam kinda defeat the purpose of the 5.5lbdensity on top?

I didn't get it yet. They said there was a delay in manufacturing or some shit...I'm supposed to get it this week.

You don't feel the base foam... and all the foam companies use around 2.5 so I'd imagine it will be fine

Update: I finally got a chance to lay on my friend's knock-off tempurpedic and it was pretty comfortable. It's supportive without being too soft, but compared to the real thing, it felt a little saggy. But my friend also has it lying on the ground without a box spring.

Got it today

It is AMAZING. Its just as firm as the tempurpedic, maybe more so. I have it on the boxspring from my Kingsdown right now, but eventually I'm going to get a low pro bed with no boxspring.

Can't wait to go to sleep.

I still swear by my foam bed from overstock.com. Cal King, gotten for 800 plus shipping. It has stood up to all types of tests. I recommend getting a good cotton cover for warmth, cool air circulation, and cleanliness when/if something drips (sex).

Another thing I have read about these mattresses is that they retain more heat than a normal mattress. This could make you feel too warm in the bed.

Can you guys confirm/deny this?

Seems like it might, a little...but nothing drastic.
