After 3 months of searching, we bought a house

My fiance and I probably looked at over 50 new and preowned homes before we finally found THE ONE this weekend.

Anyways, it's in Montgomery, TX- in a golf course community about 300 ft from the lake. It's at the end of a court on a decent sized lot.

The house is about 2200 sq ft. 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths. It comes with full granite, upgraded stainless steel appliances, frieze carpet, ect... It's about 6 weeks from completion so we still can pick our options. Also, it's a custom builder so he is flexible with everything. The house is brick and stone. We close May 26th.

This will be my 4th new home since I bought my first one 7 years ago. We wanted to stay with something inexpensive so we have more spending money on other items.

We got it for $184,000- and I'll be puting about 50% down.

Here's a quick pic.

Wow, very nice!!

Personally I loved house hunting... we did the same thing as you and saw a ton of homes and communities before deciding.

Good luck with that place!!

There are some houses available like that in our area. Problem is... with home prices that low, the rental market sucks. If you can get a house like that for $184k, you can get a smaller house for even less money...

Nice... Not to big, not to small and the price is right... I would love a new place like that, but it ain't gonna happen up here at that price..

I'm suprised it has 3 full baths (with only 3 bedrooms)... I haven't noticed many of those before.

$184K for that gorgeous house??!!!??!! Honestly, here in Wisconsin that house would be $350-500K.

So far, things are going great. We have been working with the same realtor for 3 months now and he's given up weekend after weekend with us. We know him pretty well and have developed a good relationship.

My last home I sold by owner so I'm very familiar with all of the paperwork and the process in general. I just can't wait to get out of my damn apartment! Moving again is going to suck though.

Yeah, the prices are right down here and it's definitely a buyers market. Problem is, in five years when we go to sell the house, we probably won't get much more than 200K for it. You buy property down here that you want to live in and not for investment property.

Yeah that was kinda surprising to me also. Sometimes I see 4 bedroom houses with only 2 or 2-1/2 baths...

BTW nice purchase Ash. House looks great

Congrats Ash!

See if they can add an extra car onto that garage. Then you would have a 3/3/3!

I think most people fail to realize that the closer you get to Mexico (ie Cheap labor) the
cheaper houses get.

That's not true at all. It has very little if anything to do with cheap labor as there are many other factors involved.. I mean, I now live in NC and there are as many mexicans here builder homes as there were in NY/NJ/CT.

The difference is that the NY housing market is much higher then the NC housing market... which is why homes in NY are so much more expensive. The average income is also significantly higher in NY, thus, higher value. I could go on and on... but factors like that are the reason housing prices vary from market to market. It has nothing to do with which states are closer to Mexico.

Oh, and if you were joking... shame on you for failing to use red text
