What puts YOU to sleep? Wink
Hope no1 has their mind in the gutter here...lol
Ok, so for the last week or 2, I have had a sudden onset of extreme insomnia. I can't fall asleep until 4-4:30ish and I'm up less than 3 hours later. I've tried cutting out caffeine, watching boring stuff on TV, I'm starting to lose my mind LOL. I can't take any hardcore sleeping pills, I have small children & need to be able to wake up for them in the middle of the night if the need arises.
Normally, I wouldn't post topic like this, but Im desperate & open to any suggestions or rituals any1 might have lol

What time do you wake up normally?
That's all the advice I have for now, I take insomnia to a whole different level. I can't count how many times I've stayed awake for more than 30 hours trying to reset my sleep schedule. I think my record was around 38 hours without sleep, and I wasn't even on any drugs other than caffeine. Speaking from experience, nip this in the bud now. Don't let it get that bad, you will hate it TERRIBLY.
I wouldn't rely on sleeping pills or any kind of brain chemistry altering substance. It might work but only for so long.
if all else fails, fap-er, schlick until you get tired out.
- Exercise during the day, make sure it leaves you winded.
- Avoid carbs/sugar/fatty foods after 7.
- Get off the computer at midnight.
- Follow a routine. Wake up and fall asleep at the same time every day (even on the weekends) if possible. Get your body into the habit of sleeping around the same time every day.

execedrin PM...regular routine like costco said.
turn the TV off. you need to turn the simulus to your brain off (TV, computer). you're better off reading a book. dont' stay in bed tossing and turning for more than 30 min. go read.
find a way to turn the brain off to allow sleep to occur. change how you think in other words. worries and anxieties will be there tomorrow, no need to take them to bed with you. focus on your breathing and relaxing when in bed.
ok...i think there are a few ideas there...sorry if they are a bit disjointed, but the ideas are there.

38 hours? Jeeze, I haven't done that since my "party" days LOL. I actually am already doing half of the ideas on your list. I have to wake up the same time everyday as my kids would kill each other if I overslept and wasn't able to play ref lol. I've already cut out the sugary/fatty/carb filled foods. My carb intake is down to about 10-15 grams a day. I excersize prob not as much as I should however I have fibromyalgia so my body gets physically fatigued way before my mind does lol. Never thought about turning off the computer, I'm constantly reaching for the iPad if I lay in bed for more than 5 min without sleeping. Damn this modern technology! Lol
Another hint mentioned that helps is having the fan on... the white noise sorta distracts me and lulls me to sleep, helps keep the air from getting musty too. TV with barely audible sound follows the same principle though I'm sorta dependent on these now... at least they aren't chemicals.
Sorry about the fibro. I don't know too much about it but still, if possible some type of cardio early in the day would help.

Just think about me and let your hands do the rest.
By the way, I'm Mr. Maker, your new fake boyfriend.

Yeah you say you can't take sleeping pills however there are some more natural kinds of things that work as tranquilizers. Like Tryptophan or something. According to sources, it is an amino acid so take enough and you'll be all Jersey Shore and whatnot.
afaik that stuff is calm enough to where it won't put you in a coma or anything.

If you're lactose intolerant, try having some cherries 90 mins before bed. Do not workout vigorously right before bedtime, and if at all possible, do not think about anything that worries or troubles you.

In all seriousness, I found that trying to emulate the breathing of someone who is in a deep sleep, helps me quite a bit. Steady, rhythmic, deep breaths help me relax enough to make it hard to keep my eyes open.

OK---here is a weird technique that I originally read about in those Time-Life books on the occult, paranormal, etc. It had to do with Out of Body Experiences and was explaining the procedures used during the 1920s or so to induce an OOB. Some of it I took to be BS, but some of it has worked for me:
1) Orient your body laying down with the head to the North and feet to the South. (BS in my opinion)
2) Close your eyes.
3) Take your thumb and press on your forehead in the middle and slightly above the line of your eyebrows. Press firmly and hold it for about 30 seconds. The goal is to really know where that spot under your thumb is.
4) Remove your thumb and place both arms at your side.
5) Concentrate on the spot on your forehead. Try to think of it as a coat of paint or similar---something you can remove.
6) In your mind's eye, try to raise the spot 1 inch from your forehead. Keep concentrating on it, but try to raise it up. Hold it for 10-15 minutes.
7) Continue to try to raise the spot another inch and hold for 10-15mins.
8) Eventually, you will either fall asleep or be looking at your body in the bed from the ceiling of your room. Either way, it will be cool.

dont eat too heavy
dont eat too late
too much workout?
stress?
I would highly advise against pills that help you sleep...a friend had a same problem and the doc told her to take some sleeping pills and she could never get off them....
take a shower
drink a nice warm caffeine free tea
read a book
BAM asleep...
and as mentioned, sex/intense orgasm do work very well (atleast for the wifey and I)....
