Powerlifting Contest June 8 =D

Sup guys, June 8th is our schools anual power lifting contest, and I think this year I'll be doing it. It's a 1 shot max out, and I'll be doing around 160-165. I know, I know that's weak shit, but so far it looks like im #1 for my class. The other guy competing in my class does 150. 128lbs @ 165 max is around 130% my body weight.

Anyways, any way I can go up another 5lbs in 4 days? I'd just be really happy at 165, but 170 would be kick ass. Also I'm also worried, because somedays I can, and somedays I can't do 165. Anyways tips?

I've seen a lot of powerlifters who arch their back when bench pressing so that it's almost as if they're doing a decline bench. Personally I think that's bad form but it will allow you to bench more. It may count as breaking the rules though.

if you really wanna get that extra 5lbs up for the competition, as you lay down and grip the bar, tense up your back muscles and give yourself a little pull up right before the lift off. That will get the blood flowing just a little bit more and tense up the muscles for that little extra POP you are gonna need! Good luck!

this is considered correct form

feet back, form a Z with your feet, ankles, knees.

push your shoulder blades together and arch your back.

take a nice wide grip and lift. exhale when it gets tough and push with your legs and hips.

this form added 25 pounds to my lift, the first day i used it after reading about how real powerlifters do bench press, it is regraded as a whole body lift, not just a chest and shoulder thing.

using this form my bench press max has gone up about 60 more pounds as my form and strength have gotten better, my goal for the summer is 400

thx! ima try this on monday. Also what's a good warm up before a max out? Say if you max around 165, what should you warm up with and how many reps.
