I don't really do heavy weights anymore, but I'm doing 4 sets of flat bench, but my 2 middle sets are at 185x10-12.

I haven't graduated to free weights yet. I am still training on the machines.....

I maxed out @ 235 last fall (1-2 reps), but not without alil' aid from a spotter... but I'm pretty sure I've fallen off considerably since then. ((school and fatness))
I'm working now on better form and lifting without aid @ all... so I'm goin' with sets of 145, 155, and 165 higher reps.

is learning to moonwalk i
Haven't lifted in a long time and would be surprised if I could do more bench more than 125 right now.
But the thread title immediately made me think of this:

My bench routine is usually something like this...
flat:
16 reps 130 lbs
10 reps 190 lbs
8 reps 200 lbs
? reps 130 lbs (as many as possible)
decline:
3 sets of 8-10 reps @ 190 lbs
incline: I do this with dumbbells...
12 reps 60 lbs (each hand)
10 reps 75
8 reps 80
8 reps 80
I'd like to get those weights up and the numbers down, but I lift alone so I don't really like doing too much weight without a spot.

Weight in a free weight situation is always given in total weight. That is, the bar is always included.
Bench pressing has been the exercise that I improve the slowest. It's the weakest "point" for me. Always been.
I am at two plates for 3 reps. That's 225 pounds.

Seriously though this is an important point IMO because most people do not understand the difference betwee strength and power.
When we're talking about beating up someone, or to make it more civilized, martial arts, it's about power, not strength. Bench pressing in its traditional sense, is all about strength.
Power = Weight X ET (elapsed time of a given motion)
If you make ET irrelevant, say we substitute it with "take all the time in the world", then the variable "Weight" in the equation equals strength.

ALso, although flat bench is 225 for 3 reps, my incline is pretty close to that. Meaning abnormally close. I do 210 pounds, three reps also. I always attributed it to 11 years of volleyball training.

Actually, I screwed that up. I do 3 sets with 200... a 45 and a 35 on each end. Thats more than I flat bench for reps, and I do this after bench pressing when I'm already a little worn out... so yeah, decline is a good amount easier for me too.
I guess its actually 204, I just counted the bar as 40 instead of 44 for rounding sake

my rotator cuff is swiss cheese. Instead of taking some time off when I started to get some pain i just kept icing it and working out hard on it. I probably need surgery now.

Or maybe you were just selling yourself short when you started.

when i did bench with the bar:
Flat and decline: started with 135...then 205 x 10...then 225 x 4....max was 255
incline....max rep weight is 205 x 3
now i got into dumbells
flat: 80 x 6
incline 70 x 10
decline 85 x 6
now i just have to keep it steady...
i also work in cables....but i'm the on and off type so i dont' see a big change in my body =0(
