A dumbbell set and a bench for home

Any of you guys have a dumbbell set and a bench at home?

Just trying to do some basic weightlifting at home. Probably for like 30 minutes everyday. I just don't have time to go to the gym nowadays.

I'm thinking of getting these and was wondering if you guys have used any type of dumbbells and benches.

I personally don't, but if I did, I'd go with the BowFlex SelectTech weights. Easy to store and pretty sweet design.

weights are weights.

the two items you linked looks great!

Those all in one dumbells are convenient, but rather expensive. You don't need that much really. A bench is good, but you should at least get one that holds a bar as well. i know you can use dumbells for bench press but it is nice to have the option to use the bar too. I have a real old bench/bar, was my fathers, I just added a few plates and bought 3 sets of dumbells- 30-40-50. check out craigslist, probably a lot of people selling stuff they don't use.

I also need an incline/flat bench.... A good one. The one that the OP picked would break on day 1. Any recommendations?

I don't think you need to get too crazy with them, unless you are talking about pushing some heavy weight. Plus if you use a 5 ft bar you will not be using as much weight as you would with a 7 ft bar.

I'd like sturdy and not wobbly And incline/decline/flat with some legs support would def help.

I'd suggest a FID bench (Flat/Incline/Decline) and those 40lb total weight sets will only be 20/20 if you use em at the same time. I second craigslist for weights as theyre usually 50cents per pound on the used market (new is usually $1 a pound).

Trust me on this..

I purchased those weight sets (40lbs each) to start working out. The problem is some exercises I could do 30lbs, and others I could do 15lbs. So between each exercise I'd have to adjust the weight, and adjust, and adjust, etc.

You have two options:

1) Look for a good DB set on craigslist or at Play it again sports. You will end up spending more money for different sized DBs, but it will be worth it for when you work out. You don't want to spend half your workout changing the weights.. it will get annoying.

2) Purchase an all in one DB that makes it easier to change the weight between exercises.

I think option #1 is your best bet, especially if you have a play it again sports. You can find DBs in all weights AND you should be able to find a DB rack. Just buy the weights you need now, and as you get stronger you can just purchase the extra DBs. This will make your life easier while working out. You should also be able to find a nice bench at play it again sports.

If you have the room, check CL. I have been looking for a while but haven't seen many lately. I low balled some last summer and the sellers didn't even respond.

I would guess .50-.60 per lb is a good rule of thumb when buying them.

I just picked up 10-30 lbs in 5 lb increments for .50 per lb.

I don't need anything heavy for now. 30 lbs is plenty for me at the moment. It took forever watching CL to find something that wasn't overpriced.
