Post They can't keep our TSX on the lot

I just came across an article detailing the average length of time that various cars sit on the dealer's lot and guess what car made an appearance for having a very short time? Of course we all knew it already but the TSX came in with an average of only 24 days on the dealer's lot which ranked it 22nd. The top 3 were the Lexus IS, Toyota Prius, and Scion tC w/ 10, 10, and 11 days on the lot respectively.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I don't feel so bad about waiting so long for my car now. I'm supposed to get it this Monday 3/13! I can't wait.

On the lot: What's hot, what's not!

Wow... interesting. So the TSX does sell well... BUT doesn't sell as well as the dealers make it out to be. Aroudn here, they make it seem as if they dont care if we walk away since their TSX's sell so well.

Nice to know we have a popular car. Hate the fact it will soon become the most stolen car too, if not already

Toyota and Lexus cater to the widest audience possible, and are engineered for the lowest common denominator. Even so, I am baffled to see Corolla on the list.

The only surprise to me on that 'Cold' list is the Dodge Magnum. Hemi+RWD+E-class chassis+gobs of cargo room for ~$30k? How could it not sell?

IMO it might be the odd look of it for most people who want a wagon, i.e. soccermoms and their Volvos or whatever. It's a little weird looking if you ask me. Looks decent on paper, though.

The guy and general manager at the dealership that I bought my TSX at told me that for every 14 Honda Accords that are sold 1 Acura TSX is sold. Could be true for all I know. I do know I had to wait an extra day to get my TSX from Concord Acura like 20 miles away so they put me up in a MDX for the night.

Hotter in pure volume, maybe, but the TSX is made in fewer numbers. So there are less to sit around on the lot...
Mine sat on the lot for about a week and a half. I was there when she first arrived, still bundled up from the transport.

WTF is Buick doing up there? Since when is Buick a hot seller? And what's a Dodge Sprinter? I've actually never heard of that car before.

So do they count cars that are sold BEFORE they get to the lot? Cause that would explain why Lexus (and Scion I think) are up there cause there's like a waiting list for those cars.

I don't know how accurate that article is but the TSX is NOT a hot seller. I visited 10 Acura dealership here in Northern CA and each dealership had at least 15 TSX on the lot. My friend down in southern CA saw the samething and we all know CA is the state that sets the trend for automobiles. Plenty of people on this board including myself have bought the 06 tsx below invoice. If it doesn't fly off the lot in CA, it doesn't fly off the lot in any other state.

15 cars is not a lot. There are 68 interior/exterior/navi/transmission combinations for the TSX. Dealers need to have inventory to be able to provide cars their customers want.

The TL sells in higher numbers, but the supply of the TL is good and they are generally not hard to find. Where as a majority of the TSXs are sold before the cars are delivered to the dealers and therefore they don't stay on the dealer lots very long.

That's not a good indication of how popular a car is. If they only have 1 car on the lot at a time (extreme exageration), of course it's not going to stay very long.

The reason the scions are up there is because they keep so few of them at the lots around here. The two people i know who have bought them ordered them before they came in.

The Sprinter is mainly a cargo van/industrial van. We've got several around town. Most of them are vending machine company owned. The Ambulance service is supposed to be getting a couple new ambulances based on the Sprinter. The inside is tall enough for a 6' paramedic to stand upright inside.

Why do you say CA sets the trends in automobiles???is that a fact or is that your opinion?I'm not asking to be sarcastic or anything, however, if you look at alot of vehicles that come out of california and some say out of hawaii, there is a different look to it alot of the times. There are alot of cars in CA also with the same type of styling here in hawaii, but i'm not so sure CA sets the trend. I think alot of the trends are set from japan here in hawaii more the california.Anyways, its hard to say how hot of an item the tsx is in hawaii....being theres only 1 Acura dealer in hawaii.I know i had to wait a month to get my tsx because i wanted the 6MT.Supposedly they said they only bring in 2 6MT's a month. Its good to see the tsx get some recognition though.....dont know how many times i've had people say that my TL is nice

Among my three color choices, none that weren't already taken could be found within any reasonable radius, or even en route from Japan...so I'm currently in the middle of a 3 month wait for my 06 CGP 6MT NAV to be built especially for little ol' me ! I doubt there are too many other cars on the market that regularly spend ZERO days on the lot the way many TSX's do.

That's quite an opinionated statement. I think the amount of people who bought below invoice doesn't quite qualify as "plenty". And TSXs ARE hard to find in other states, regardless of what's on the trend-setting lots of CA.

Mine wasn't as rare - Black/black 6MT NAV - but they couldn't find it anywhere near the NY Metro region.
Had to be specially shipped from Japan, or so they say.
Incidentally, it's also due to arrive 3/20!

I'm picking mine up on the 20th. So...what is the below invoice price that I should be shooting for when it comes time to negotiate?
Also.....the dealer I'm going to has about 14 TSX's on the lot...and the one in Sacramento has about 20.

Below invoice? anything below is great! Seems average is $500 above inv. These below inv deals are rarities. timing and inventory is controlling the deals. and often it's unclear what the buyers trade in "loss" was.

did you need invoices?
2006
Non-nav: $25,436 invoice +$615 dest.
Nav : $27,257 invoice +$615 dest.

How did you track the inventories for various dealers in CA? just use online dealer sites? I found that some dealers don't list inventories.

I'd travel to Sac to save $1k, or even SoCal for $1k+ savings.

It's that large-ish, euro-styled panel van... thing.

Hard to describe. Think of a small FedEx truck, and you'll probably realize that you've seen one.
