Just bought 2004 tsx with high mileage
Hi guys! I'm new at this forum so hopefully you guys don't go too mean on me for asking questions...
I just bought a 2004 Tsx 5AT with 234k on, did fluid changes. One of my friend suggested me to do transmission flush by adding and draining few times. I just got done with second adding and my transmission is whining....
Well it's not grinding at all but whining also I can see when it's cold it doesn't want to shift fast but once it's warmed up, the car shifts okay no grinding or jerking. This noise is killing me.. does anyone have a good solution for this?
would it help if I change the filter?

Make sure that you're doing it on a level surface after driving the car and waiting 15 minutes for the transmission to cool down. Verify that you're using the correct spec'd fluid. If you're not sure what to use, go with OEM Honda/Acura fluid.
In some rare cases, you may need to use a vacuum pump to get all the fluid out and refill it. I don't recommend this, but my father had the same issue with his Pilot and using the vacuum pump at the shop to remove all the fluid and then adding new fluid fixed it.

I would have gladly given you $7K for it if it was clean.
Mileage isn't that big of a deal. I have 268K on my 2007 RDX and put about 40-50K on it every year.

Yeah, that kind of mileage will scare off most people. I'd guess you got the car pretty cheap. Though it's considered by some (many?) to be akin to "an old wive's tale", there is some validity to the advice regarding older transmissions "if the transmission fluid has never been changed, or if it was forever ago, don't change it now". Short explanation is because as the fluid ages (so gets "used up") the transmission gets used to the older (now thicker) fluid. New, clean, thin, fluid is a shock to system. True? I don't know; pick a side of the argument. That may be what you experiencing though. The AT in the TSX, if properly maintained, is fairly robust. Maintenance only means fluid changes though (although there is an external filter for which there's no service schedule, but it's accessible and you can change it if you want to). All you can really do is a drain an fill on these transmission (no power flush, and use ONLY the correct Honda ATF). You're only changing a third of the fluid (3 quarts) at any one time. The usual schedule is do it every 30K miles, that way you're performing a complete fluid change every 90K miles, which is the interval if I remember correctly. I have an 07 with 240K miles on it (original owner) and have followed that schedule (more or less) starting at around 60K miles. The transmission pretty much still shifts like new (though I'll admit I have no memory of how it shifted 12 years ago). Feels as good as ever though. The trick to racking up trouble free high miles is maintenance, and I've taken care of the care since new. Sell it? Well, I tried last year, and couldn't give it away (literally), so I still drive it, granted, locally. They're a really nice car. Good luck with yours, and hope you can get the tranny to quiet down.
