From Acura Service Bulletin: Replacing OnStar Rearview Mirror
This item was in the August 2008 Acura Service Bulletin and I thought it might be useful for those of you with 1G RLs and OnStar. In short, OnStar no longer is compatible with analog equipment such as that in the 1G RL. Acura doesn't plan to provide replacement equipment. Some are therefore choosing to replace the mirror. The full story with pictures is in the link above (.pdf file) but the summary is posted below.
Replacing OnStar Rearview Mirror? Try This Accessory Mirror
Instead
Currently Applies To: ’03 3.2CL, ’02–04 3.5RL, and ’03 3.2TL with navigation system
In accordance with FCC regulations, on December 31, 2007, all OnStar® phone services were switched over from
analog to digital. For owners of vehicles with analog OnStar equipment, this means they can no longer get OnStar
services. Furthermore, American Honda isn’t offering any sort of retrofit kit or digital upgrade to the system.
If you need to replace the factory rearview mirror for whatever reason, try using the accessory automatic day/night
mirror instead. It’s less expensive than the replacement factory mirror since it doesn’t have those now-useless
OnStar buttons, and it mounts on the same mirror base. There’s just one slight hitch, though: it uses a 7-pin
connector instead of a 16-pin, so you’ll need to do a bit of cutting and splicing during installation.
To do this repair, order these parts:
• Automatic Day/Night Mirror Attachment Kit: P/N 08V03-SZA-100
• Automatic Day/Night Mirror Kit: P/N 08V03-SZA-100A
Instructions and pictures are at the link above.
