Reload this Page Good to buy 2007 rdx with 154k miles for $8.5k?
Hi Guys,
Looking at buying a 2007 Acura RDX with Technology Package, with 154k miles, for about $8k-8.5k. Is it worth a buy. A little bit of information on the car and questions as below:
- Seller mentioned about replacing Alternator, Battery, Starter Motor recently and complete overhaul a few weeks back checking for all they can see. I'll find out when I check the car.
- What mileage does the car need a major Service?
- Does this have a Rubber/Chain Timing Belt, and for Rubber what is the frequency of change?
- My main concern is, if everything looks good, is 154k too many miles to be a "little" assured. I know 154k miles, you can only be so much assured.
- Also, what should I check for when looking at the car?
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks, Aalok

id be checking the transmission out for sure!!!!!!
if there is a dyno in your area take it there and spend 100.00 for a run and that will tell you weather the cars in decent shape mechanically. if the shop doesnt have an awd dyno thats fine just pull the drive shaft and run it in fwd. the exhaust will need some attention soon most likely the flanges rot away.

Also, it has a timing chain and it should still be fine. I haven't seen a thread yet about changing that out. Serpent belt on the other hand, at that mileage if it hasn't been replaced you may want to look into that. Also all the usual suspects if no records are present - all fluids, brakes, spark plugs, etc. There is no specific mileage requirement for most services - just follow the codes that come up when the car calls for maintenance, and the additional instructions outlined in the owner's manual.

I have 155k miles on mine and would probably ask more. Had mine since 09 with around 40k. Despite the electrical problems its been great.---At least seems like an electrical ghost but I've never really put time into chasing it down....
I actually didnt care for it but now its has become my winter car and I'm growing fond of it.
Will do this:
eat brakes
Eat tires
20 mpg no matter what
I have replaced quite a few things and have a stack of receipts a mile high.
Battery
Alternator
Starter
Ignition switch
brakes x 3
calipers
front speakers
all shocks
All bushings
arm rest leather
Ready to replace again:
Plugs
cabin filter (maybe)
trans fluid
diff fluid
Good alternative to my Supercharged Jag for the winter.
even if it is a bit rough cosmetically (cheap paint, thin doors, etc.) these are great cars for less than $10k. Go for it.

I have 123K on my 08 and pretty much had the same issues as OhRDX minus the starter, calipers, and ignition switch. I would add:
- i-vtec solenoid failure
- brake booster sensor
- OEM battery failure at 4yrs
- A/C TSB extended warranty replacement
- passenger sun visor replacement
- driver side door actuator
- intermittent XM channels getting stuck on one station and no other buttons responds. Turn off stereo or sometimes restart RDX to fix
I would plan to change out all fluids, replace filters, replace serpentine belt, test battery/alternator, check plugs, and expect minor wear/tear fixes from $300-$1000. My RDX does eat tires compared to my MDX with same type (Conti DWS). And getting 19-20 mpgs avg combined is normal for me also on a tank.
I have the most fun driving my RDX.

For what it's worth....
I've had my '09 for almost 1 year (just rolled 150k). It came with a full set of service records (all from the Acura dealer), and the only repair was an AC system service.
Now, mine was babied more than any used car I've ever seen. I was apprehensive about getting one with such high miles, until I saw it in person!
I do need to replace the door speakers, and I'm sure it would benefit from new struts.
While the brakes have some life left, I may do some upgrade work in order to provide better feedback (feel a little numb to me).
It's a really great little CUV. The turbo and SHAWD make it pretty fun to drive (had a blast on a mountain trip over the summer).
