TLX rear deck spoiler

For those with the rear deck spoiler - are you satified with the fitment? I ask because the one installed on my wife's TLX Adv has about a 1/16" gap between the lid and leading edge - I can even see some of the tape used to adherre the spoiler to the deck. My dealer has offered to replace once I bring it in and they look at the fitment issue. The one I looked at on the showroom floor looked like a nice fitment - one reason why I decided to go with the spoiler. I know I should not be too concerned since the dealer is willing to repalce but I wanted to know how others who have had this accessory added like how it fits.

If you watch the latest One Pack video posted by EE4Life, they mention installers have had issues installing the spoiler and they're changing the installation template.

The one I had installed looks fine, though it's verrrry slightly off-center. You'd almost have to pull out the tape measure to notice it. Just looking at it, you wouldn't notice. I'm pretty happy with it.

How does your edge look on the front of the spoiler where it mates with the top of the trunk? Is there a space where you can se the adhesive tape that was used to 'stick' it to the trunk?

That's where I was saying that it was a bit off-center. The left side is flush. The right side shows a tiny bit of a gap. But I don't see any tape sticking out.

Can you post pics? I would like to know what "ridiculous" is to you. Maybe I'm being too lenient with my installation. See pics at the end of this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/fifth-g.../#post15170917

Thanks!

The district mgr will be at my dealer on Friday 9/26 to look at the fitment issue and to replace the spoiler. He wants to witness the installation process to see if the tech is doing it properly.

Don't have pics of it close up. I have pics from a distance. But you can't tell from those. Its being replaced today. They ordered a new one. But when I say ridiculous. I mean both ends of the spoiler aren't pressed down. And there is a gap in the middle. Its just not fitted right.

I'd really like to see a picture of what the spoiler looks like from a few different directions. I can't seem to locate any detailed photos.

Ive taken the one I had back twice. And now have to take it back again. I'm not going to be satisfied with a spolier that looks like its about to fly off the trunk. Ill post a pic of it. I can't believe people are willing to pay 35-40,000 for this car. And then another 400 for the spolier to have it not fit flush on the trunk. How is this supposed to be a luxury car, with a spoiler that is flying up on one side.

Like you, I am not happy with the fit. I will wait until a new design comes out that fits better before I go back. You are experiencing the leading edge gap (I see the tape) on yours that I had on mine.

Take it back. Acura admitted to the dealer today that there is something wrong with the spoliers. Acura is now switching the manufacturer, and the new one will be here next Thursday. They apparently have been getting complaints, all over the country.

You shouldn't be, they admitted there is a flaw today. Its too flimsy. You might be happy now. But what about after the weather changes and the more you drive the vehicle. And it starts separating

Acura admitted to the Acura dealership. That there is a flaw. And they are sending a new one, using a new manufacturer.

So at first i didn't notice on this car i saw during my SH-AWD test drive. But after looking at it and zooming in to the top right side of the spoiler...looks like there is a small gap in the spoiler fitment.

It seems to me that Acura complicated the install process with those clips they come up with instead of drilling holes per template and bolt on. I installed the spoiler on my 3G, was easy and straightforward.

Clips? So these aren't a combination of 3M adhesive & bolts anymore?

Wonder if this was done to save install time. Seems like it won't in the long run for the people who pay attention

Tully,
Can you get the part number from your dealer (since manufacturer has changed so should the part number) and post it? My dealer is not aware of this new manufacturer. Attached are photos of my "issue".

An update: I had a long conversation with Acura Client Services about my fitment issue. First, they tell me Acura manufactuers their own accesories - not contracted ouit. Secondly, I was told there was no current redesign in place since this has been less than a 1% complaint issue. The client rep that gave me this information is Ed Victor. He mentioned the district rep and my dealership want to try another fit and possibly paint the edge of the tape to match the color of the car - not a viable fix in my book.

Tully,
I would question your dealers response to your compalint about a new manufacturer and a new design. For those who are not happy with the fitment I would suggest calling ACS directly and speak to them and explain your frustration with the fitment. Truly if there is a redesign in place the part numbers willbe different. Can you get the new part number form your dealer?

Thanks for the update, Miner. I've been contemplating the deck lid spoiler accessory, but will continue to wait until they either resolve issues with the kit or the installation process. Sorry you're having to deal with this hassle.

Yes, Miner, I am going to put mine on hold too, so for now, no spoiler for me! Thanks so much for your update.

I just spoke with my dealer and the "paint the tape edge" is Acura's fix to this porblem. My response was, for me, fitment was the issue - gap between lid and spoiler. No fix for that yet and no new part designed/remanfactured by Acura. Really Acura - this is not a Kia or Yugo.

My feeling is that Acura CS thinks this is a one-off instance especially since I was told I am the only customer at this dealership who has issues with the fitment. I really don't believe this is the case from what I have been reading here.

^^ I agree. Only people that are passionate about their cars and are attentive to details would notice it which is why I think its quite common on Acurazine....its just the type of people we are

Pearl Code Defect. Would a deck slide spoiler hide this?

Can someone who has the spoiler installed tell me if it would cover this area of deck lid?

^^^ Too close to tell. On mine, the spoiler doesn't come down to the edge until about 2-3 inches away from the seam/edge of the trunk lid. What I'd do is have the dealer place a spoiler on top and see or check out one the dealer may already have with a spoiler. Although, if it does work, I'd be asking them to give me a free one since it's to cover a defect.

Figured I should report in being an earlier buyer.

So I have had my car for a bit over a month, has the factory spoiler installed. It looks perfectly straight but I have noticed that it is coming undone from the corners a bit and at first was coming up from the front long section where it joins trunk on the back windshield side, so little bits can get stuck in there. My impression is that the sealant or glue is not very good. I live in a colder climate so wonder if it effects it. Trying to find a time to bring it in to a dealer.
