TLX is a boat, what else should I consider?
Finally saw a TLX in person. I've been on the fence since they revealed the prototype and I was really hoping they would fix some of things but they didn't. Almost feel as cheated as the WRX reveal.
I sat in it, and it just didn't feel comfy. It was plush but it doesn't hug the driver. The bolsters are a bit flat and has poor lumbar support. Then the infotainment.. wow.. not a good wow. It looks cheap, navi looks dated, it's easy to get distracted fucking around with the audio controls, plus the cheap volume knob, like it was an after thought just like the placement of the PTS button.
On to the powertrain.. seriously 9 fucking gears. Looks like some dipshit in marketing was in charge of this. They couldn't get 5 gears right, what makes them think they could get 9 right?! It's like someone said, Toyota has 8.. we must have 9. Even the fucking engineers couldn't figure out what gear it should be in. The 4 banger seems much better, plus plenty of room for boost, but I fear the TC woes will continue with this one. This really should have been a single platform turbo 4 IMO.
Styling.. it looks like a boat, it feels like a boat, this thing is a fucking boat.. where are the fucking exhaust cutouts? Those fucking wheels look like they were made for treading water. The fucking strut tower looks like it was made from recycled aluminum cans and toothpicks.. surely this wasn't made for the road. Just a few of my frustrations..

Here's my options..
TLX boat, 4banger w TC DCT.. maybe spend $10k to make it right
2012 300, sure it's a boat but I only have to deal with 8 gears
2013 IS350, need I say more.. upgraded tires of course

majofo....I am sorry that you didn't get to enjoy what the TLX had to offer. I think you have to keep in mind that Acura doesn't have a large car lineup so if the the ILX and TLX won't do anything for you, the RLX is your last hope. If the TLX is a boat, then the RLX with be even more harder to swallow.
My advice is to start looking at other brands but be prepared to pay more if you want to play with the BMW, Audi and Lexus.
I highly respect your point of you and frustration....We all are entitled to have an opinion but keep in mind many people here have recently bought their TLX and may be a bit sensitive to your comments....just a heads up

aside from some minor interior cues and the exhaust cutouts.. I really like the prototype look.
somewhere from the prototype to production.. some ninnymuggin up the chain decided to cheapen it even more. It's a shame.

Another negative review, interesting. This guy seems to not like the car either. (amateur review) Except he calls it the opposite of a boat, he says it's too small. Go figure.

I have non biased opinions, but I'm not going to waste them on you. If you hate the TLX so much you should be on other forums asking them. I've been on many, many forums for a lot of years, and I like the "F" word as much as anyone. But you are trying too hard to use it to bash a car that 99% of the forum members are here because they still see it as a viable option (if they don't already have one).

I like some things about the TLX but dislike others -e.g. antiquated GPS. KeithL summed up most of my concerns in his review that are making me consider other vehicles. I could over look some things but the GPS is a huge factor as I hate handheld units but have to go to a new destination almost every week. I'm considering buying a lexus IS or ES this time around even though my last two cars were Honda/acura. If you are as hard to please as me, you'll find that no car is great in the $40,000 price range. I doubt you'll think the ES 350 is any less of a boat than the TLX but I kind of like it. I have a hard time with BMW - great to drive but the dash is down right primitive.

Well...since I don't own an Acura or Honda my opinion should be non-biased. I'm not sure why you expected a car this size without a dedicated sports package, and with front wheel drive, to drive like a sports sedan. I'd recommend you check out a new Audi A3 2.0 quattro. I think a sports package is even available.

I figure the OP has a smaller build, hence the TLX feels like boat. I'd recommend a BMW 3-Series. Personality-wise, that would be a good fit.

Lexus is having a bit of an identity crisis but have always been in the top for me in regards to interior. Indeed the ES series has always looked boatish, but is definitely competition for the TLX.
Talking about price.. I think the big value is the low 30's stripped down TLX. No way would I touch the near 50k variant. Too many better choices in that range.

It does have some nice amenities for a boat.. I will admit.

This is what I don't understand, everyone complained that Acura dashboards had too many buttons on them, so acura corrects the issue with a second screen and people still complain!? You CLEARLY have nothing good to say about the car. I can understand having negative things to say, I mean no the car isn't perfect but you can't even see past your hatred to see the good in it? Why are you here again? Also don't judge the 2nd screen until you have lived with it for a while, I have now and can tell you it actually works very nicely. Go buy a BMW, your personality seams to fit that stereotype.

I complained about them when I first got my 2010 TSX but after getting used to them I was fine with them. Same goes for the 2nd screen now in my TLX, it may seam useless but once you have used it for a while you start to like it. Sorry if i came across is rude, everyone does have a right to their own opinion, it just seams to me like you looked at the car with a closed mind. On the comfort part I'll say this, just as I also said in my 2 week review of the TLX, no the seats do not hold you in, but they are in fact very comfortable. I have bilateral spondylolysis at lumbar 5, so I have frequent severe lower back pain, and the TLX is one of the only cars I've driven recently that doesn't hurt my back. If the TLX still isn't your cup of tea, I would say take a look at the Q50 or the Lexus IS. Both will be very reliable and fun to drive. Maybe the Q50 2 screen layout will be more to your liking.

So I kind of agree with OP. I test drove the i4 and the v6 today and while the i4 had some nice low end power and the v6 had nice power all around, there was a lot of dislike!
CONS
Interior looks cheap like they cut back ( its like a Honda interior )
Seats are plush but again no bolster and don't hold you in
volume control is a joke on the dash
the entertainment interface is way to confusing and buttons placed weirdly
Not a fan of the door panels on the car
The transmissions blip as the car goes into lower gears and kind of jerks it (im not sure if im just not used to it or not a fan)
PROS
v6 has nice power
transmissions shift smooth
rides and handles very well
styling is soo sexy
Im waiting to test drive the v6 shawd tech model and Ill base a full opinion after that

exterior: 3G > TLX > 4G
interior : 4G > 3G > TLX
the owner (my buddy) wants me to give up my 3G for the TLX. My answer to him is simply no way in hell . He offers to remove the beak too but still no go for me. I just hate that stupid beak design.
Clearly, Acura has done some good things to get sales: lower the price, fix the exterior design. They want to get some 3G owners back to the brand. While I was at the dealership, they sold 2 TLX V6 Tech to 2 3G owners and both cars had 150K+ miles on them. Many 3G owners I know can't stand the hideous looking 4G
The new engines are okay, nothing special. The interior is okay. I don't use the Nav so don't care much for it. Why do you need the nav system when we all have phones and iPads/tablets ?
@ Majofo: you should get a Bimmer M3. I am looking at one. I am 6'4 so the IS350 is too small. Q50 is too hideous looking LOL. Seriously, Infiniti has to fix the exterior design or they will not sell many cars.
