Newly-named TLX will feature more dynamic and sporty proportions, two new advanced powertrains and a host of signature Acura technologies
TSX to be discontinued as Acura creates clear hierarchy for luxury sedan lineup
Acura today announced that the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype performance luxury sedan will debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The TLX will mark the debut of a new name for Acura's mid-size modern luxury sedan entry, replacing the outgoing TL model. The all-new model will feature more emotional styling with tidier, sports sedan proportions wrapped around two all-new advanced powertrains that provide even more athletic performance, along with a host of signature Acura technologies. The 2015 TLX Prototype is designed to appeal to current and next-generation luxury sports sedan buyers including existing TL and TSX customers.
In conjunction with the launch of the production TLX in the second half of next year, Acura will discontinue sales of the TSX model in 2014, as it moves to clarify its sedan lineup with a clear hierarchy of three distinct models – the entry luxury ILX, mid-size TLX sports sedan, and flagship RLX performance sedan.

More gears in an auto and a brand spanking new DCT is my guess.

The all-new Acura TLX will offer luxury buyers a wider range of choices with two all-new, high-performance and highly fuel-efficient direct-injected engines, each mated to an all-new advanced transmission, along with available two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The TLX will also feature dynamic and emotional exterior styling wrapped around a mid-size luxury sports-sedan package that maintains the roomy cabin space of the current TL.

The best news in in the Bloomberg article in the other thread -- a renewed commitment to the Acura brand. The margins on a TLX are much higher than an Accord and could be off the charts with economies of scale and cross pollination.

Each time acura announced all new TL, there was significant different exterior design. do you guys think this new TL also have same shield grill design ( or some tweaked version ) that RLX has or something else?

It will certainly be similar.

Too little too late. PROTOTYPE? That does not sound like a spring release, sounds more like a June-July at best if not later in year, otherwise why show a prototype? They did not say anything we did not know already, and I want to see their definition of more sporty.

I like this led headlight more than acura's jewel led headlight.

The 7-speed DCT from the RLX Sport Hybrid could be the transmission they are talking about - could be exciting but we have yet to see how that performs and it may have some reliance on the electric power train which may make it incompatible with the TLX.
I don't think the TLX will have the electric SH-AWD, would cost too much considering they are trying to slot it under the RLX and with reducing the size even more than the current TL, I just don't think there is enough room to fit the batteries without some serious compromises. I could see it as a premium trim a few years down the line.
The two new engines definitely indicate a chance that there will be a 4-cylinder option, which makes sense if they drop the size, and they need something to fill the gap of the 4-Cylinder TSX.
I just hope they keep the manual..

Now I have to ask you....surely you knew the TLX was about to be announced and it was coming out? Its not like this was a surprise so its hard to imagine you could be disappointed by news knowing that it was just around the corner. Unless its what it will seem to offer as far as engine/transmission that now makes you reconsider your purchase?

Finally, Acura has broken it's silence on the TLX.
This is it. 2015 TLX to be released sometime next year.

The press release states "advanced transmission," as in just one. I'm guessing this car will only have two pedals, which unfortunately is a deal breaker for me. I'm still stoked to see it. Flying to Detroit for the reveal next month.

I'm excited to see that something has come out about the TLX since those spy pics...but I just purchased a new car 2 weeks ago...too little too late Acura, but if its a great car, I may come back...

There's still room for hope of the "carryover" 6MT SH-AWD combo in the new car. The press release didn't use words like "exclusive" or "only" when talking about its new transmission. I understand the DI V6 in the MDX and RLX is the same block as the prior gen V6. That means the "old" 6MT and mechanical SH-AWD should bolt up to the "new" engine just fine.

Don't regret your TL...the 4th Generation is a fine vehicle and seems to age very well, in fact, people are now coming around to the design so don't beat yourself up. Enjoy it and don't look back....and like potmilkz said, there is no guarantee that it will look nice....for all we know, it could be hideous!

I don't worry about the TLX being hideous.... I worry about it being BLAND. BLAND like the RLX. That would be 100000X worse than being hideous! If you're hideous, at least people will talk about you. Someone may even like you and think that you have character! However, if you are bland, then that is THE END. No one will talk about you, and no one will remember you. Just like the RLX..... has Acura learned its lesson from the RLX now!? Sigh....

an adult perspective
... and no mention of a coupe ... maybe if I hit the lotto there may be an NSX in my future, but otherwise any association with the Acura nameplate looks like its destined to be nothing more than a memory.

I would agree except these are from the RLX not the TLX!!
If you wanna see better pics of the RLX, going to the RLX section and people have posted pics of their un-camoe'd RLX already
You did get me excited for a fraction of a sec though ....

Agree. Those spy shots were the RLX.
