2015 or 2016 TLX?

2015 or 2016 TLX?
I am in a real predicament and need advice!
I live in Ft. Lauderdale and drove to Philadelphia PA, where I still am, to visit friends. In August, I was hit from behind and my car was totaled. I am in the process of healing and settling the claim with the at fault drivers insurance company.
I was originally thinking of looking for a used TL, but it now appears that I will get a bit more when I settle with the insurance company. I am now thinking of an early 5th generation 6-cylinder automatic TLX, 2015 or 2016. Because of cost a 2015 would be preferable, but I have read/heard that there might have been an issue with the transmission lurching gear shifts on the first year 5th generation, that was correct for model year 2016.
Anyhow, as you can imagine, I have a lot of anxiety and do not know which way to turn! If you can give me your thoughts on a good year that would be fantastic.
Thank much,
Anovice

2016 would be a much safer bet for the 6 Cyl model - no question.

If it was my money the 2016 would be the choice.

2016. Of course, if you are still going to consider a 2015 (which you shouldn't), make sure it's damned near perfect, including a very long, perhaps overnight, test drive, to make sure there are no issues. Or, just get a 2016 and worry less.

Thanks for all your opinions. Very uniform, which is reassuring!
Now to the trim (packages). Bells and whistles and technology features are not important to me. I never had a vehicle with things like navigation or a back up camera, so I do not know what I am missing. From what I can tell, a 2016 Base seems just fine. I would be very happy with a 6 cylinder and leather seats. Forgetting an Advance package, what may I be overlooking in a Technology package?

Summer is Coming
Sorry to hear of your accident. The 2015 is cheaper for a reason. Spend a bit more and get the 2016.

My old 12 MDX was rear ended in Philly.
Anyway, I have a base V6 that’s been trouble free. If you don’t mind not having ELS or SH-AWD, then you’ll be just fine with this trim level. NOTE: You will experience some wheelspin under moderate to heavy throttle (from a standing start) si, you may want to opt of rubber that’s stickier than the stock RE97s. (You’ll also experience a little torque steer under aggressive throttle application but not as bad as say a 5.5G Maxima.)

I feel like I'm in the minority, i went and test drove a 15 v6 advance sh-awd with 25k at a somewhat sketchy dealer, noticed no shifting issues. Left due to their sales practices and tactics and went to another where I drove a 15 v6 tech sh-awd with 24k back to back with ah 16 v6 advance sh-awd with 47k. noticed no shifting issues on any of them, admittedly the first car was warm cause they were cycling customers through it but the other two were overnight cold. Noticed no vibrations or overly hard shifts.
Ended up going with the 15 tech over the 16 advance, the advance was several thousand more expensive and had 2x the miles (and silver on light interior) vs the 15 tech in luster graphite with black interior. for the first ~500 miles it was definitely shifting a little harsh 2-3 when i was trying to commute overly gingerly, but if i drive normal, harsh or on the slightly lighter side of normal its perfectly fine.
Yes at times i think the shifts are slow but im coming from a 06 v6 6spd manual Accord sedan, i expect my first automatic car to shift slower than i would.
I knowingly bought a 15 v6 sh-awd over the 16 and dont feel like i made a mistake, especially not as big of one as everyone I see here saying. I also dont hear see or feel the vibration issue that these cars apparently have

I drove my vehicle for the past 3 years and have no issues with it. Do note that I'm just a normal commuter that likes a fast car every once in a while, I am not into sporty cars.
As for the bells and whistles, I think the Tech A-spec would be perfect, I am superficial and would spend a little more money on looks...If you want to save some money, I would suggest Tech package as a minimum.
