Who's running Winter Tires?

Anyone running winter tires on the car? what brand/size and how are they?

I've had michelin alpins on my 89 civic and they were good and stable.

had yokohama v90s on the teg and that was a world of difference vs the stock mx4s

looking to buy winters for the TL

I ran with the Dunlop Winter Sports on stock rims 215/50/ R17. They were solid for the past 2 years. Im going with the Pirelli Sottozero this year (same size).

"they" say that narrower tires are better for winter because it has a smaller surface area making contact with the road. There for it will cut trough snow better and has more weight per square inch. BUT screw that .... it looks stupid. I'm running 235s on stock rims, Winter Viking or something. Works good for me!

I'd skip on the Blizzaks for now. When the Ontario government pass that winter tire law where everyone must have a set those Blizzaks will be garbage. Those things don't have the little snowflake logo required by the provincial government.

They are good tires though.

Well "they" are 100% correct. It's also Winter, who cares about looks; or alternatively, get a Winter beater (like me with the TL, which I think makes a wonderful daily beater. ).

I'm using General Tire Altimax Arctic, stock size on stock rims. Really good tires which are made in Germany (Continental is the parent company of GT). For anyone in Montreal I suggest you go to Union Tire in Chateauguay - they have really good prices there and good service.

hrm... what go get,

blizzak lm25 H rated for 760CDN from tire rack
general altimax arctic Q rated for 813 CDN from 1010tire

they say the lm25 are more of a performance winter tire rather than a real winter tire. the road noise and handling is almost like an all season but is geared towards winter..

the general altimax artic are true winter tires with Q rating so the quality during the dry will be not as good but will be good in the snow/bad weather...

grrrrr

I paid 80 + tax each. And if you buy from tire rack you need to pay shipping which is expensive.

your looking at the wrong tire, you want the Bridgestone WS-60.

dougler that's what i was thinking too.. the WS-60 is a true winter tire with soft compound and has that mountain/snowflake symbol. they say it's really good.

i think i'm going to go with the general altimax artics. they are highly reviewed and there are many copies (it's actually the gislved nf3 from what i've been reading about)

so it must be a good tire.

i'm buying stock size tires.. 235/45/17... winter tires in that size doesn't get less than 100 bucks...

Hey guys,

I'm running 17" winter tires (235/45/17) on my stock wheels. I bought a set of directional snows last winter and they were amazing. I bought the Hankook Winter iPike w409:

http://www.hankooktire.ca/product/ti...ail.asp?pid=58

I'd definitely recommend them to anyone. They're not that loud on the highway (I had Blizzaks before, and they were very noisy). The directional tread really carves through snow as well!

Hey bud, i'd recommend you should get a set complete snow rims and tires its would save you time and money every time you swap them......Back in the year 2007 i had a hard time to find the rims that would fit the front Brembo brakes, so at the end i have to buy oem steel rims from Acura, cost me fortune.
