So I have one good story and one bad story about internet dating.

The Good,

My friend Craig called me last night, he's getting engaged to a girl he met on the internet 2 years ago. Turns out Yahoo worked for him. He was really apprehensive about using the internet (felt like a loser) but he finally took my advice and whammo now he's gonna be married happily ever after.


The Bad,

My friend Steve called me the last saturday in a panic. Turned out the girl in the 'pic' was about +150lbs in reality. I pick up my cell phone from a phone number I did not recognize it was him, on the phone at the restaurant 'Help she's a butter troll' was all he could say. He didn't even go back to the table. I don't hold him responsible either. If you going to take a pic of you when you were 18 and put it up as 'yourself, currently' then why the hell should you be surprised when your internet date runs for the hills. Why do girls do that?

Anyways, what's the general opinion on internet dating around here?

i don't see anything wrong with meeting people on the net i guess but it's shit like that that makes me think in some cases it could be a huge waste of time. plus i hate typing; i do it enough posting here...

why the hell are they on the internet?

Jen has met a few guys from the internet, and they were asshole nutjobs who ruined it for the good guys for her.

I dont get girls who do that either(with the pics). Ill send my pic, even if im not model material. its who i am, i deal with it.

Net dating can't be all that bad...I am just about ready to give it a go myself...lol I am getting sick of just hanging with the roomates and shit...and now with my best friend (little brother) gone for two years...I need someone more than ever...he has not even left yet, but I saw him for the last time last night, since I have class today (test, otherwise I would skip) and I'm already all torn up inside.

The bad happend to me once i joined the site...when i posted about the fat girl that gave me head..she looked nothing like the acutal picture...but knew what i looked like..so she gave me head i bounced and never talked to her again...

In all honesty, I have dated almost all of my female friends - a bit incestuous, but friends make the best lovers usually ...BUT - Sometimes meeting someone you dont have any connection with can open up many other doors...Even if that one person doesn't work out - you still have a new group of friends that, that person may have introduced you to.

No, none of you on A-CL! In fact, the people I have been talking to on ACL are some of the coolest people I've ever met.

I used to be real shy and wouldn't actually try and meet people irl, so the net was like, a way I could open up. Like she said, met a bunch of fuckwits.

Now I got a life (yes, I freely admit I used to have NO life), and I've been trying to be more outgoing irl. I'd still meet someone off the net because imo, it's like meeting someone for a blind date irl. I know some people might not agree, but that's my $.02
