Unless you could keep up with her on the laps, then jumping in the pool might not be the best idea. You could have just kept an eye out for when it looked like she was getting out of the pool. When it looks like she's done swimming, bring her towel to her and ask her if she swims competitively or something like that just to start up a conversation. Or, say "You have such a smooth stroke. How about you try it on me?" if you wanted to get slapped.

As for this being a passed up opportunity, that is a bit of a stretch. Sure it was an opportunity to talk to someone, but it's not like you were offered a tuna sandwich and you turned it down.

i missed an opportunity over the summer, i was talking to the computer lab for my econ lab, and we both didnt know where it was so she asks me if i was taking econ too and where is the computer lab for it, i tell her i think its over her why dont you come with me, and so while walking she wastrying to hold a conversation but i just kept answering with one line answers, and when we got there we had to wait outside for a bit, same thing kept trying to talk to me, and then eventually she just said i gotta goto the bathroom left and then stopped talking to me
