You guys don't see the inherent problem when your gf/wife wants to look through your phone in the first place? It's not whether or not you have something to hide, but the lack of trust or insecurity that drives her to do that. But hey, I guess many people have bigger problems to worry about!

I've gone through her phone multiple times before, when I planned her surprise b-day party and couldn't get a response from a couple of her friends, I got their numbers from her phone.
I even read text messages from her guy friends, not like I was worried, but it was convenient to get his number from there since he just text her.
My own securities as just fine. So are hers. I tell her if an ex contacts me through FB or email and we'll go through their profile together if she wants and leave it at that.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm more concerned with keeping a roof over our heads, food on the table, gas in the cars, money in the bank, bills paid each month and ammo in the guns

Nailed it right there my man. I ask my wife to read my text messages and let me know who text me, emailed me, called me, etc especially if I am driving.

I'm mostly talking about the girl who goes through your phone behind your back for no good reason. I guess we wouldn't even notice unless they had something to confront us about!

Hmm...
Yeah because 18-23 year old guys are always open to just being friends with hot girls, right? No sexual tension or anything like that. The myriad of guys' phone numbers on her phone was really the tip of the iceberg and like I said, it led to suspicions which were later confirmed--meaning I confirmed they weren't just old classmates or anything. Myself personally I'm not really naive enough to automatically assume a girl never makes booty calls.
Point is like I said it let the cat out of the bag because I got a look at her phone. I guess you could say people don't really keep their skeletons in their closet, anymore. If I did go the distance with her I most likely wouldn't have found out about her hyper-slutty Snooki-esque nature until much later.

Yeah I've had a few clingers and a few stringers they both suck. It's pretty easy to weed them out. Now if someone has their own confidence issues, they'll hang on to some psycho like that you know...

I know what you're saying though. It's just that looking through her phone really did shed light on how messed up the whole situation really was.
