From purely an investment standpoint they are not a good buy because the ring loses value as the shape of the stone goes out of fashion.
I don't care if it is something that will go up in valve because I will never sell it.

Have you ever tried to sell a diamond? They're mostly worthless. In fact, the Diamond Syndicate depends on people never reselling their diamonds (not to mention tightly controlling the influx of diamonds and the popularity of whatever type of diamond is in supply for a given year) to avoid flooding the market.

"A diamond is forever" is just a marketing scheme to prevent people from trying to cash in their jewlery.

If a woman looks at a ring as a sybol of your love.. the cost and size should mean nothing... I am a realist and know that a nice ring counts and I wouldnt cheap out but if I can only afford X she should be more than happy with X not complain, say no or what have you becuaes she wanted Y.. Y comes from another man then!!!!
That's terrible! Honestly, I wouldn't have a problem with a cz ring, if that's all my boyfriend could afford. The price doesn't matter to me, it's the thought behind it that counts.

And if he DID get me a $20k ring that was butt ugly and embarrassing, I would still wear it and love it all the same. I just think that situation could be avoided with a little careful hinting on my part and questioning on his.

^^^^

I remember mentioning that 15-20k was the norm for engagement rings and got my ass jumped on.

But anyway, I agree that the ring doesn't really matter if there is love involved. I'd be happy with a $7k if my man loved me to death and thats all he could afford to give. Its the thought that counts and the motivation behind it. But I haven't really encountered that problem since most of my men know my taste in jewels from going shopping with me and seeing things I already have. The subtle hints .

Isn't it? What is the normal range, if that's not it?

You guys all spend much more than that on a car, right?

^^^yeah thats what I thought too. But after I mentioned it I had people calling me retarded etc. I didn't mean to offend anyone by the comment. Seriously though, I don't really know anyone that has gotten engaged with a ring under that....except for that one bitch I was talking about above though Hate that chick@!

And its not like the 15-20k+ goes uncompensated...at least for the people I know. The woman usually gets her new husband a new car or something else that he likes.

That is fuked up! I say a guy should give as much as u can afford. 5k on a ring is not too shabby. It a decent size, i guess it depends on ur finger also.

I do not disagree.

I agree with you, though. Maybe it's a regional thing? Like, cost of living is higher in certain places, people get engaged much more expensively in certain places, etc?

Hey, thanks. It's always weird joining a new forum, especially one where people are "established". It's kind of like starting a new school or something. :-/

I'm glad I don't have to sit at the nerd table. Till I insult the wrong person, at least.

^^haha well being an equal financial contributor has always been a big thing for me. So I'd want to give him more than just the pleasure of my company for the rest of our lives...wait...that would be a pleasure right? lol. Or pain, whatever hehe. I'm not sure about there being much of a difference regionally in how people get engaged. The people I know who have gotten engaged have done it in many different countries and states and the rings were all in the same range. That is why I've always thought it was average. Oh well...guess something new is learned every day

Well, yeah. "Kept" women bother me... it's like, was women's lib for NOTHING? Then again, equal being relative, I suppose if he got me a ring from a gumball machine, I wouldn't have to do shit either, right?

And you're also right about the regional thing. That was really something I pulled outta my ass b/c it's 4 am and I'm tired. When I think about it, all the people I know were from different places, too.

^^^hahah well in the case that he wanted to be a cheap bastard I say...equal contribution. I am a firm believer that if a woman wants to be treated equally, she has to contribute. I don't mind tipping the valet, paying the hotel bills, picking up the check, as long as its appreciated and reciprocated ...lol. I knew I should have been born a male

Oh yeah, of course. Actually, since I make way more than he does, I usually foot the bill anyway. Kinda backwards. He doesn't complain, though. And I get a foot massage every night.

Ok really, don't do that. There's no point. You would be better off looking at your NWS pics in the other forum. You'll never meet me in person, you'll never get a pic of me, and I'm going to be the same person I am whether or not you ever see a pic of me, so just don't bother. It'll just make things uncomfortable.

Besides, I saw a thread a couple days ago where Mr. Admin Soopa was saying he doesn't like that shit on his forum. Let's all respect his wishes, k? It's just easier that way.
