Well, I worked with this guy that was serbian, and they look to get married once and thats it..... Wow, I am in similar kind of situation with a girl I work with right now too! She broke up with her b/f of 8 month just a couple months ago, and I've been moving in on her, she tells me that she likes me more than a friend, but don't want a b/f over the summer. I told her that I understand, and will respect her decision. So, we made out and fool around for the past 3-4weeks, occasionly txt and talk on the phone with each other, but every time when we talk on the phone, it always last more than 1 and a half hours. So here's an update. She called me last week and she was acting really weird. She said that during her first 10 days over there she realized that we can't be together because her family would not talk to her again since we have different backgrounds. She also said she had a long talk with her cousin and that he told her that he doesn't agree with them being like that but that most of her family wouldn't like her being with someone other than a Serbian. (Which I don't understand since they live thousands of miles away and I would probably never meet them anyway.)

She used to date someone from Russia before and when she brought him over to her house, her father didn't talk to her for a month, at which point they pretty much broke up.

So she's been sending me all these text messages since last week asking how I'm doing, that she wants to hear my voice and that one day I'll understand, but I haven't responded to any of them. Also, all her ex-boyfriends so far have been non-Serbian and her father/mother didn't know about any of them. She has never acted like this before so I'm guessing something must have really gotten to her when she got over there, but I did tell her that she shouldn't let someone else dictate her life and do what she wants to do.

This is what she said at one point:

"I know you're pefect for me and I know that everything would be perfect with you. I wanted to go on vacation to clear my mind and rest and then come back and be with you, but in the last 10 days I've realized that we can't be together because my family would never talk to me again..."

If I were you I would be hurt and think that this is all just BS. IDK...I know there are some people/families out there like that, but she needs to live her own life. She doesn't even live in the same country as them, you would think she would have some independance and make her own decisions about what is 'right'. And you said that all her ex boyfriends weren't Serbian...so the excuse of "you aren't Serbian, we can't go out doesn't fly with me".

On a sidenote, her father and I already know each other and get along, but he doesn't know that anything is going on between the two of us. But yeah, I agree that it's BS and doesn't make sense. Getting along with the father / if he likes you/ thinks you are a good guy should work in your favor. If her father likes you, she shouldn't have to worry about hiding it/getting thrown out. Maybe the russian came over and started saying how great the days of the USSR were great...he'd prob have less of a reason to hate you based on your ethnicity?

Parents will eventually get over it... I'm Indian and I have seen this with all my cousins that married/dated non-indians and some friends, including myself when I was dating someone from another background/race.

They always get over it if they truly have their child's well-being in mind. But that being said it could be rough for a while (months maybe a couple of years).
