It just sounds like your sister wants attention, i know alot of girls that were like that a couple years ago (im only 17 now but it was happening alot earlier than 16) alot of girls would say that they are suicidal and that their dad hit them or some stupid shit that never happened, i remember one girl went so far as to give herself a black eye and said it was her parents that did it.. give her a year and she'll most likely have completly different things to say

You know, it could be a publicity stunt but I don't know eric's sis well enough to make that judgement. But it really irks me when people say "it's the 'in thing' to be bi (or les, whatever)", like it's some sort of fashion trend. There are people out there who legitimately are attracted to the same sex, not to be popular or to get attention or piss off their parents.
I think 16 is a little young for her to know for sure, have her check back when she turns 18. But still, I think you shouldn't be so unsupportive of her. I know (not from personal experience, but from close friends' experiences) that telling someone something like that is not something they would enjoy, it's not something they look forward to. She must have had a lot of trust in you (if she was, indeed, for real and not looking for attention), and you telling her she's being stupid really will not help.
