Why did you take the plunge? Be honest.

For me its because my wife became my best friend and it was someone I could see myself growing old with and wanted to. Call it corny or whatever but its the truth. I enjoy spending time with her and she keeps me out of trouble. She's good for me and I hope I am good for her. We also have the same feelings as to what we want out of life like kids, lifestyle, etc.

We both get along well with the other's family and after being together 6 years (before I popped the question) I knew I what I was getting into. I tend not to become close friends with women so I knew there was something special about her.

with everything

Wife=best friend; knew her for 6 years before we were married.

amisconception-- IMHO, I don't think anyone should be married before 25 (preferably closer to 30), so you shouldn't be thinking about this yet...

Yeah, pretty much the same for me. I proposed last weekend after 10 years together and 7 years of listening to her bitch about it.

Also - agree with Slimey about the age thing. 30 is the new 20!

Did she say yes or is she waiting 10yrs to let you know the answer?

I definately feel 30 is a good age to get married at, or even a little later in life, no one wants to have their 60th wedding aniversary anymore.

I have no f*cking idea why I proposed.

We had been together four years, and it seemed like the next logical step. Engaged for a year, married for, essentially, five years. Met at 18, married at 23, split up at 28.

I wish.

Technically, I never even asked her, I just pulled it out (the ring, pervs) and said "surprise!" I think she shat herself.

I agree! That's why I'm setting myself up financially for the future.
This way when I get married (25-30 y/o) I can support and live a
good happy life with my bestfriend (future wife ? ).

I have always thought that was a good age 25-30. Nowadays teens are
getting married at 18 and end up getting divorced at 23. Not good!

Most people have a "starter marriage" when they are young and decide to have a real one later.

Literally, of course.

Thanks. I hadn't heard of engagement gifts but a friend brought me one - a David Givens superbowl jersey autographed to me... strange friends I have. Good, but strange.

How did you figure out what ring size to get to keep it a surprise?

When you're with somebody for 10 years you end up hearing about everything at one time or another. Basically, I took what she told me in high school and added 3 sizes to it.

Yes, but you're bringing up the question for a reason. You shouldn't even have a girlfriend at your age, just fuck buddies and people to hang out with.

Yup, I am bringing up the question for a reason. I want to know why young men marry, not because I want to marry any time soon; if ever. Nothing wrong with wanting understanding...

I agree with you, having a girlfriend shouldn't be on my list of things to have
