For people who want privacy in dating...

Here's a great site I stumbled upon that gives you a whole new level of privacy.

www.vumber.com

What is Vumber?

It’s your anyphone, anytime, anywhere phone number that keeps your identity private – until you decide it not to be.

A Vumber is a number from any area code you want, linked to your home, cell, or work phone. When someone calls your Vumber, Vumber lets you control how you handle the call: you can a) answer it; b) send them to VumberMail; c) give them a busy signal; d) tell them the number is out of service; or e) play them a custom message you create.

It provides unequaled privacy protection when anyone calls your Vumber, and when you call anyone. And it’s not limited to a pre-defined one-to-one calling relationship like you sometimes see out there – it is as simple as having another phone number. Even simpler. Vumber puts you in total control of your communications and your identity.

You can call “from” your Vumber, too. Just dial your Vumber, and then dial the number. It’s that easy.

It is simple and instant to use. With Vumber, you get a flexible, privacy-protected, portable, disposable telephone number and a private voice mail box (VumberMail). And don’t worry... You still have your existing numbers, and you can still call and get calls from them. But now you also have a number with total control. Now you have your Vumber.
There's a special introductory deal right now. First month free (try it for 30 days) - and then only $4.99/month after. You're also allowed to change your number for free 3 times a year.

Wait a minute, so we can use this to call someone and make it look like a different person is calling them? i.e. spoofing the # that shows up on their caller ID when you call them?

Here are more details, I received these from my confirmation e-mail:

Using your Vumber to make a call

Using Vumber is easy.

To make an outbound call using your new Vumber, simply dial (xxx) XXX XXXX from the phone you registered with the service. When asked to enter the number to dial, simply key in a 10 digit US phone number followed by the # key. (Please make sure your phone does not block caller id; we use the caller id to recognize your phone).

Receiving a call on your Vumber

When someone calls your Vumber (xxx) XXX XXXX the call will be forwarded to the phone you registered with the service. Answer the call and you will hear "Please press 1 to accept this call". Press 1 and you will be connected to the person calling you. If you do not press 1 the call will be sent to your Vumber voicemail.

Setting up your personalized Vumber voicemail greeting

You can personalize your Vumber voicemail greeting. Call your Vumber (xxx) XXX XXXX from the phone you registered with the service. Enter **1# to access the voicemail system. Press 3 to configure your voicemail greeting.

Retrieving your Vumber voicemails

Voicemails can be retrieved by calling your Vumber and entering **1# to access the voicemail system. Voicemails are also emailed to you at xxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com.

Managing your account online

You can login and manage your account at http://www.vumber.com/login.aspx. Your username is xxxxxx. From your account page, you can change your billing details, add a password to your Vumber, register more phones and change which phone your Vumber is forwarded too.

Billing

Your credit card will not be billed for 30 days. However we have pre-authorized your card to ensure it is valid. Some banks show this pre-authorization on online statements. Your bank will automatically remove this pre-authorization from your statement in a couple of days.

I don't get it. What's the difference between giving real number and decide not to receive it (or filter out.. phones have options to block a number and options of giving busy signal, voice mail and what not)

Other than being able to switch vumbers around so the person you don't want to receive (or even block) calls from can't find you, what's the real advantage here? What can you do if you know someone's real number?

Some saints on this site...

I'm not going to go into detail as to why this could be a very beneficial tool.
