Married to a foreigner ?

Is anyone here married to a foreigner ?? I met my gf about 5 years ago while going to school , she had to go back to her country basically because we were not ready for marriage . Now , after 2 years of LD relationship . I ve realized she is the one . There is a process where I could ask for a visa for her as my fiance , but that is going to take at least another year . Does anyone know if we are going to have any problems if she travels with a tourist visa and then marries me ? Any information will be appreciated .

A buddy of mine got married to a girl from england. He moved there with her so I'm not sure if he could help, but I know they were thinking about living here, so I can try to contact him and see if he has any advice if you want.

A good friend of mine married a woman from Russia, he was 62 she was 32, if he didn't marry her, both her and her daughter were going to go back to Russia. That was 2 years ago, and they are still very happy together. It is both their second marriage and they both have kids from the previous marriage. In any case it was VERY easy, if you don't find the answer in a day or two I will get a hold of him and find out exactly what the process is.

Good luck, don't let the one get away

You'll be making it more difficult on yourself by going this route. Much cleaner to sponsor her for a K-2 fiance visa.

My best friend married a woman from Canada, a college friend lives in NYC and married into a wealthy Mexican family, another close friend of mine works in London and married a girl from Germany, and my wife is from S. Korea - so I can speak with some knowledge on this topic.

My best advice to you is hire a good attorney to expedite the process for you. Good luck!

Check out THIS page. It should answer all your questions.

Good luck!

And don't hire an attorney. It will be a waste of money. Get applications from the INS and file them yourself. Many of my friends went through the process without attorney's involvement.

Thanks for all the info . I have an appointment with a lawyer next week . I just want to make sure I wont have any problems . From what I heard and read , I dont think she has to leave after we get married , she could stay here while the visa is processed . Like I said before I could do it the long way but this LD thing is just killing me , it gets harder and harder every day . I dont think I should have any problems , it is not like it is a fake marriage . I have 5 years worth of emails, phone cards , pictures , letters to prove it . I could even throw some X rated videos if necessary lol .

That would be great, we could probably help a bit further if we had some inspiration

correct on the fiance visa..

I came in via that way. You apply for the fiance visa, she gets interviewed, gets Visa, flies in the US with 3 months to get married, apply for Green card after marriage, have kids, live for 3 years in US, get passport, file for divorce, take all you worked so hard for, you pay child support/alimony, she moves in with her b/f, ...........

Just kidding about the end. But that was how I cam in. Fiance visa, then got married in the US.

^^^^ lol . The last time I saw her was in August , she was here for about 2 weeks , I visit her every six months too. I am going to see a lawyer tomorrow . I could do the whole fiance visa process but that would mean at leats another 6 months of not seeing each other , Plus I dont think I am going to be able to travel on December . Anyway it all depends on what the lawyer says tomorrow . .

I wish I could show you the videos , the best porn I ve ever seen . lol

I thought I would have to go through this process once with a girl I dated from another country, but we both decided we couldn't leave our families.

Whatever happens good luck. Always good to see things like this work out. It's all about people being happy

I'm going through the process right now.

My wife is an American. I've been living here since 93 though. Either in school or working.

I've never had to get a K visa, but I hear it's the way to go. She can also get a visitor's visa which usually allows her to come up for a 6 month period, but she won't be able to work until she gets an Employment Authorization Document or EAD. That usually takes 90 days or less. Lately everything have been getting done a lot quicker than normal.

Once you get married, file for Adjustment of Status. If you decide to do all the paperwork yourself, everything you need is on the USCIS website. I found someone that prepared all my forms for me. And it only cost about $300. When you write everything out, if you make a small mistake, you have to start over since any mistake can lead to the INS sending your forms back for you to re-do them. It wasn't worth the agrivation for me to do it myself.

The second link all the documents you will have to file including travel documents. It is however recommended that she tries not to travel until she has her Green Card.

Enjoy.

Well , the lawyer told me it will be a lot easier for us to follow the whole process. If we get married and she stays. there is a chance they can denied her visa , he also told me the whole process can take between 2 months to A YEAR . This sucks .

What part of the process? Her getting her K visa, or getting her green card? I would call up another lawyer and get an idea from them and also look into talking to someone from the not-for-profit immigrant groups.
