Thanks!
I decided to do it last sec. I wanted to go downtown Chicago next weekend but we have to go to a bday party now so that won't work. I decided to do it in a old Russian tradition where the grooms parents come to the brides parents and ask for her hand.
Well not quite in the tradition. Her mom and she just returned from Belarus on Tuesday so my parents and I were going to her parents house for dinner. We all got there, sat down to eat (with a bottle of vodka of course) and it was time for the first shot. I said I want to say the first toast, walked out to my car, grabbed 100 roses and came in with the ring. Got down on one knee and asked her, she had the most surprised look on her face, as did everyone else. I knew it would be hard to surprise her so this was going to probably work out for the best, plus it was somewhat of a tradition and we did it with the people who are closest to us.
Shortly after she accepted, 20 people showed up - mostly our aunts/uncles/cousins/grandparents to kind of celebrate.
I'm glad it's done Now I want to plan a getaway weekend for sometime next month.

Great. Now he's loose.
Wow! What a beautiful memory. You're quite the romantic! Well done! It's so cool that you did it with family.
It's been an honor that you've let us peek into this part of your growth as a couple. Thank you.

That's very sweet! I'm sure your respective parents are glad that you included them in witnessing and celebrating such an important event. Congratulations to you and your fiance!
P.S.
So how did you manage to bring in 100 roses?

As we were starting to sit down for dinner, I ran out to the car and got them. It was tough to get them all on 1 bouquet.

Congrats to the multitude of people who got engaged in this thread. The jewelery, bridal/wedding and legal industries really appreciate your present and future business.
BTW - can we get a title change to know he actually popped the question?

Thank you all for your congrats and words of wisdom - JB, never thought of that!
We have not set a date yet and are not sure how to go about the wedding. Doing it here with 200-300 people or doing it somewhat more intimate at a resort somewhere with only closest people and saving $XX,XXX.
We have been weighing both options and basically just need to get some more info, prices, etc..
I think we both want to do it late summer/early fall.

How fun! I am madly planning right now, as we rather suddenly decided to do it next month. Crazy.
What kind of setting did you choose?

We will be doing it at a Russian restaurant in Chicago (we're both from Belarus). Very traditional, family style dinner, 150 or so people, live band, big hall with dance floor.
Lots of vodka.
