my thing is this and this is what i have been taught. all cold sores are herpes. even when i typed cold sore into wiki to see if they were diff it redirected me to herpes simplex. its true that all cold sores are herpes though right.

Uhhh.. folks I hate to break it to you, but it is widely believed that 90% of the adult population carries the Herpes Simplex Type I virus, which is what causes cold sores. So chances are each of you are already carrying it. Just because you don't have cold sores means very little. When you see someone with a sore it generally means their immune system is at a low point, this could be due to stress, exhaustion or some other illness (like a cold.)

How about instead of flying off wildly into speculation you actually educate yourselves:

EVERY THING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT COLD SORES BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK.

It would be a bad idea to kiss that girl while she has the sore (her lip could get infected from your bacteria ridden mouth), but once it is healed she is as healthy as you are.

Correct, for as far as you have gone.

All cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, that is correct, however there are two types.

Simplex Type 1 causes cold sores and is minor, virtually all of us adults carry it.

Simplex 2 is the sexually transmitted disease and is quite a bit more of a concern. Unchecked it can lead to sterility and a few other nasty things. However with education and precaution someone with Simplex 2 can have a healthy sex life and their partner will have a very low chance of catching it.

My gf gets cold sores every once in awhile, so when she does, we don't kiss. If she feels that "tingle" of it coming on, that means no facial contact. Four years later, and I still don't get cold sores. So this method works for us.

In your case though, I'm not so sure. If she lied about how she got cold sores in the first place, it's also possible that she'll lie and says she doesn't feel that "tingle" when she does, just so she can make out.

It's your call ultimately. Think she'd lie again?
