Here is my dilema, I have only dated black women (I'm black) not by choice but it just always happened that way until my last date.. she is white and although things did not work out with her I'm finding that I would much rather date outside of my race.. is this crazy?

A lot of the black women I meet where I am are not open to the kind of things I like (snowboarding, traveling, outdoor activities, etc) but I stay in a bumpkin part of Georgia and interracial dating isn't really accepted like it is everywhere else... its kind of hard to meet people who see past race which is frustrating since I grew up in a place where race isn't a huge deal. Any advice or opinions?

Its not about what people think but rather lack of selection. Some of my main gripes here have to be lack of open mindedness and obesity.. I'm not perfect so I dont expect that but damn being overweight is becoming more and more accepted here.

Anyway I am seriously considering a move to New Hampshire.. I went to Maine last month to go snowboarding and loved it there.. the mentality, the people its just soooo different from the south.

I would say move.

Although, where ever you live you will always find people that have problems seeing past the race issues. How about one of the larger city areas? Like NY, or Philly or Boston. It may be a lot easier. And most of the activities you seem interested in are common up here.

You can also move to Baltimore if you want to get it on with Michi.

lol you guys are too funny.. I grew up in Alaska so not really into the big cities, I just like the ability to drive to one within a few hours. It is kind of strange how the attraction completely changed from one thing to the other but I guess that happens.

 

I agree with the others, move closer to a northern metropolis area. Suburb of NYC, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle.

lol Yeah when I went last month I may have seen one other in the whole state of Maine, I'm just a product of my environment which is far from what is typical of black guys here.. vote pretty conservative.. and I haven't watched BET in years unless I want a good laugh.

like other dudes here already said, u need to move to a less conservative area (anywhere but the south and trust me i know, i grew up there). i've been to atlanta a few times too and there is a huge black popluation there.

there are still pockets of the south where it is more accepted than not...i grew up in college towns and it was more common there than it was in the more traditional areas with more old ppl in the population.

or...u can just move to baltimore and date michi.

Southern US needs to get with the program.

If your problem is lack of girls who meet your criteria, then that's a different story. In that case, just take trips to different parts of the country before you actually move. There's always things that make you prefer one place over the other.

I'm Indian and have NEVER dated anyone Indian. My wife is white.

Some interracial relationships can be a bit stormy, but that's just the way it is. It's not right, but it happens. There are always going to be ignorant people. Rise above that. I have had relationships that ended because of my color.

 

I think it's a regional thing buddy. I find plenty of black women here in Jersey/NY/PA area love snowboarding and all sorts of outdoor activities. I don't think Georgia itself isn't too big into those actitivities to begin with.

Moving can be a big deal, if you are still young and don't have any ties to keep you from moving or exploring other possibilities... then I say you do it. Up here in Jersey, interracial dating is quite a common thing here. There will always be people that stare at you, but who cares.... all you have to do is stare at them back

 

This I have to agree with, whenever I go home to Anchorage the mentality is way different from all races. The thing that is holding me here is #1 I have a son and I take pride in being there for him.. it would be rough but I am just really tired of the south. Ideally I would still travel to see him every other week and he could stay with me when he is out of school. Second thing is I just started my own business but since its web based I can go anywhere and make it work.

 

Sunday river in Maine has got some awesome slopes its one of my favorite resorts. I love that place.

Not too good to generalize based upon race, I know several black women who are not how you described. I don't think many people in Georgia like to snowboard, I know this because I have family there and I visit almost every year.

 

My intent was not to generalize, this is why I said black women that I meet.. not all. I know there are plenty out there with an open mind but there is a serious shortage of them where I am, and I guess you can say I am opening my mind.. to something different. I believe the issue would be culture moreso than race.. deep southern culture tends to be closed minded and that goes for black and white. I'm sure I could explain it better but there is a noticeable difference in other parts of the country rather than here. On the snowboarding thing I am talking about being open to new ideas or experiences.. expanding your mind past the latest trend.

Sunday River is where I went last month and I had the more fun than I've had in a while, I'll be going there on a regular basis next season.
