Soda Stream
Anyone have one? Thoughts?
I like seltzer water with a little lime juice in it. I can get the 2 liter at the store for a $1 but they go flat before I finish them.
I am interested in either a soda stream or maybe one of the old school soda water bottles with a CO2 cartridge system.
Anyone use either? Impressions?

I think the soda stream co2 is more expensive due to the branding too. If I really wanted it and didn't feel like just buying a 2 liter, I would go with the old fashioned route. Or probably do some DIY to be honest: http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/06/p...placement.html

I love the DIY method, but not sure I want the 5lb CO2 tank in the garage...
May just look into the soda bottles with the CO2 cartridges. I think they can be had for around $50 new plus the CO2 cartridges (which I have for bike tire inflation).

It's not worth it. My brother got one from best buy for free and it sucked. The drinks don't taste anything like the real deal and it's expensive to keep it going.
Buy a bunch of 2L bottles when they are on sale and be done with it.
Also, dilute your soda with alcohol.

We used to buy cans of seltzer and bought a stream a few months ago, love it. We do at least one new bottle a day and get about a month and a half out of each canister. I think each canister is $15 via bed bath beyond's exchange program so not too bad.
I wanted to convert it to a 5lb tank but after a bit of reading, I found that there is a difference between food ready co2 and welding co2. Not so much in the gas but in the equipment used to store and fill it along with the oils and such so I didn't do it.
I drink plain seltzer with maybe a squeeze of lime and love the soda stream.

I've had a few soda streams, we just drink the carbonated water and not anything flavored.
I like it because I have it at home, it's less plastic bottles going out into the recycling bin.
A few months ago we bought a Samsung fridge with a built in soda stream, so the CO2 tank goes right into the fridge, we just walk up and out comes magical bubbly water
