Need a decent wine

Ok I don't drink, & I don't buy booze. However I'm having some people over for a nice dinner next weekend. I need a bottle of white & red wine. I have no clue.

Nothing that cheap, just an ok wine that will not be that expensive will do.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Go to a local wine store or a liquor store with a large wine selection; talk to a person there, tell them what's for dinner and what you want to spend. You'll probably get a pretty decent choice out of them.

Either that, or go to Costco and get a couple bottles of the Mondavi Private Reserve Cabernet. I don't much care for white wines so I can't make a recommendation there.

I like Clos du Bois as a good middle of the road wine...

What are you cooking? That is the most important question.

That Mondavi isn't bad, but you will be able to pick up a much better wine for what a bottle of that stuff cost.

Ya tell us what you're cooking and we'll suggest a grape varietal...

Beyond that, shop in a price range and buy for the label

In otherwards, $15 bottle with a nice looking label > $15 bottle with fugly label. Odds are your guests aren't connoisseurs

I haven't gone wrong with the "employee pick" shelf yet.

I don't know what's for dinner yet. Either going to be chicken or steak of some sort. It's not just for dinner, but after dinner as well.

I like good port after a meal, although Sauternes is another good alternative it you want something lighter.

I'm really hooked on Amici Cabernet right now - not very expensive and tastes very good.
