I've had pCars for well over a year, I thought I had a thread on it here...maybe not.
It's really good. It feels & looks like what a lot of people wanted Shift 3 to be like. It is a very pretty game and is fun to pass the time. The car selection, although no where near complete, is fantastic. The sounds are the best I've ever heard in any game. The track selection is the better than the rest as well.
....but
I recently bought the beta of Assetto Corsa and will likely not touch pCars again anytime soon. It still super early, there isn't much content and it basically you can only hotlap at this point (until last weeks implementation of AI) but it is the most real feeling game I have ever played. The way the cars soak up bumps, twitch under braking, transfer weight, etc is just through the roof. It makes pCars feel unnaturally stiff.

hmm. I'm not convinced. I think it's just a question of audio file sampling and fidelity. Audio in racing games just consists of small audio files that are looped and pitch-stretched over and over.
But, end of the day, I don't think it's quite fair to compare a PS3 game's sound quality to a PS4 and even older PC.
Definitely fair to say that the Xbox 360 has better sound. That's fairer comparison since it is peer machine to the PS3.
but............... the problem is the PS3 has a good sound system. Sound has never been a bottleneck for performance or quality for modern systems, we've had good sound since the dawn of CD-quality audio for video games since the 90's. It is Gran Turismo the game, that is the source of the sub-par car sounds. Remember the PS3 was no slouch, it had commendable high-end architecture for when it came out, all around, and it has a myriad of modern audio system support.
http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...diooutput.html

Hmm to clarify I think we are talking about two different things - I am talking about the quality and design of the CONTENT of sound coming from the cars themselves, rather than the actual acoustic quality of the sound coming out of the PS3. It is the content of sound, that is lacking.

Oh my. This game will get me racing on the PS again, if the gameplay and control feels right. I have a feeling it will be good.
Also the sound better be like that on PS4 - it will be weird to play a realistic-sounding racing game on PS.

However, the overall track list for Project Cars is much more impressive.

is this game gonna dethrone Gran Turismo?
