Xbox Wireless Router?

Anyone have this thing?

Customer reviews on Gamestop are all very good, just wanted to see if any of my acura brethren have reviews of their own.

I'm asking for a subscription to Xbox live for Channukah and thought I might as ask for this too. I am running wireless in my apt, and would prefer to not have to deal with breaking out my old POS router, and dealing with wild running cat5.

Lemme know, thanks.

I have it on my xbox, it works as advertised and its nice not to have a cat5 cable going accross the room. however wifi networks in a house can be tricky to get a good connection going, id suggest putting a laptop by your xbox to see how good your signal strength is there before purchasing just to make sure itll work for you

My xbox is in my room so the router would be no more then 7ft away from my airport Base Station

Plus, I get a good connection in the living room as well, if I were to ever take it out there.

Thank you, I shall ask for this.

make sure you buy the microsoft one. i bought the linksys one, and even though it says on the box "xbox compatible", my xbox won't recognize it. and i cant get it to work with my network without disabling the encryption, so basically my network is unsecure when i'm on xbox live.

Any 802.11 *bridge* will work fine... if it's not working it's because you have it setup wrong. Or it's broken...

I doubt its broken, i'm almost positive its setup wrong, but i can't figure out how to fix it.

edit: i would just assume that the microsoft one would be the easiest to just plug and play, no compatibility issues.

Well, I got xbox live...and had to go buy the wireless adapter myself.

Only one i could find in over 10 different stores was the damn linksys wirelss G gaming adpater.

So...here is my big problem... I use apple airport for my wireless. I have turned off encryption i have plugged in numbers.

How teh fuck do i get these two things to mesh. It doesnt help that the xbox "network settings" sucks and is unclear in what it wants.

any help would be nice, or im returning this piece of shit, and ordering a microsoft one. hoping that that one will work...

and its telling me there is no wireless adapter connected...

I don't know anything about the apple airport, if I did i might be able to help you better. I basically just plugged mine in and it worked. I had to make sure encryption and mac filtering were turned off though. (I later figured out how to get it to work using mac filtering...i kept putting the mac address of the linksys adapter on my list, when the whole time i should have been putting the XBOX's mac address on the list. Once i did that, it worked fine). And you are right, the people at linksys are morons

edit: you have the wireless G adapter? does the apple airport use 802.11b or g? if its b, and the linksys adapter isn't backwards compatible, that might be your problem i don't know much about networking, but i'm sure somebody here will know.

So get this, I call a Gamestop way out in Pasadena ask them if they have the microsoft adpater...after being stumped by what im talking about they look and say yes.
So, I trek out there...i see the box on the wall...pick it up....empty....

They...again....look stumped. they go looking for it, cant find it, then they pick up the box and on the back is a sticker saying promo use only.

Fucking nimrods...and these werent kids either....idiot losers that too dumb to operate in life let alone a damn game store....seriously, how hard is it to check the fucking box.

When you go into your xbox dashboard > network settings > wireless. deos it recognize the adapter? cause if not then it wont work fine with my network.

Hell, I dont know if using the microsoft one will.

This is the one time where owing a mac system is keeping me down.

No, my guess is his xbox won't recognize the dlink adapter, just like mine and yours don't recognize the linksys adapter. BUT, i'm positive that an xbox will recognize the microsoft adapter (the bitches at microsoft probably designed it that way to force people to buy the microsoft brand hardware). If i were you, i would just return the linksys adapter, and order the microsoft one online (since none of the stores around you have it). It might take a couple days, but at least it will work. I don't know if there are compatibility issues with your mac, but it would make sense if that were the case because i have a pc and mine was just plug and play.

I am going to return the linksys...just dont want to deal with it during the weekend madness.

I will most likley order the microsoft...but i would rather find it here so if it doesnt work either i can just return.

Im hoping if i order it off gamestop.com i can just return it to the store in the mall if it doesnt work either.

sigh....what a pain in the ass.

Yeah good you're going. I finally got my xbox back online since I moved. I have wireless here.

I got a DLINK 802.11g wireless bridge. Works fine. Just be sure to setup the bridge to be on the ip group your wireless lan is on. If you have MAC filtering on like I do, you'll have to tell the xbox to clone a MAC address and be sure to add the MAC to your filter list (allow of course). You can make one up or take one off of an existing device. I cloned the address on my laptop ethernet adapter since I hardly use it as I connect wireless with my laptop

Anyway FYI for inquiring minds.
