Xbox 360 - Where to buy post-Holiday 2006?

I am looking to purchase one but not until March or Feburary since I will ask for gift cards to one place to buy a 360 or cash.........but I was wondering where should I buy one? Costco has one with 2 controllers, the premium system and 2 games for 474 I think

Shouldn't the price drop a bit after the new year????

I have the original xobx and I love it but it is telling me my disc is dirty or damaged 40% of the time I play games. So I know it is ready to hit the big one.

Let me know where I should go and what the prices are

Thanks

Joe

I expect the price to drop soon, probably after the 15th of January. Great system... when it works, It gets very hot and has to be kept out in the open. Make sure you get the extended warrenty plan. I have no clue if 474 is a good price, i got mine free!

All indications are that pricing isn't going anywhere. You have to remember that the companies make no money on the systems, and in most cases, they're losing money. Where they do make money is on accessories and games. Plus, the X360 is already competitively priced... so there is no reason for a price drop. If there was ever going to be a price drop, I wouldn't expect it until the 2007 Holiday season at the earliest. Around then the system will be on the market for 2 years and they may start tweaking pricing... but not now... way too soon.

As for performance, I have mine in an entertainment center and use it all of the time with the glass doors shut. Never once has it overheated. Granted there are small openings in the back of the entertainment center for air to pass through, but they're not big and still, never had a problem with it. I also bought mine this past summer which was when they were supposed to be fixed of the overheating problem. Whether they fixed them all or not, I don't know, but mine has been great.

As for where to get one... I've told several people on here, so I'll tell you... check eBay. I got:

360 Premium Bundle
Additional Wireless Controller
NCAA 2007 (you had your choice of any game)
XBOX Live Gold 13 month membership

All of that was about $425 shipped.

So I say check eBay first b/c you can usually find some sweet bundles on there for less then what you find in the stores...

I think you should also mention that you only play like 4-5 hours a week MAX. Is that consecutive playtime? If not then your experience means nothing, and you are spreading false information.

That was an average since I got the system. Whenever I got new games there were nights where the system was on for 3-4+ hours straight. That has happened many times. Additionally, anytime I've had friends over there have been times the system was on for 6+ hours straight for a few days consecutive. I may not have personally been playing the whole time, but the system was on and being used. That has happened several times as well. Plus, more then a few times the wife and I have watched several movies in succession using the 360, which equals several hours of it running also. Not that I need to explain myself to you.

Therefore, the information I posted is accurate, and whenever I post info based on personal experiences, it is always accurate. So, know before you talk/post before calling someone out and watch your step...

Well I got mine 15 days b4 it was in stores, and that sucker got hot! I saw a video where in germany they took the heat sink off of the GPU of a first gen 360 and whoever installed the heat sink forgot to remove the foil so there was no thermal paste just foil. They estimated that around at least 100,000 went out like this. Any ways I have had to have two replaced by Microsoft and the one I have now works great, still gets really hot though.

I have an early first gen 360 that I got at launch (build date is early October 2005) and I often play many hours in a setup much like juniorbean with glass covering the front but vents in the back and I never had an issue with my 360 overheating.

The issues with many early 360's actually were not overheating as many suspected. The issue often was caused due to bad (sloppy) soldering on the motherboard and flimsy thermal glue between the CPU and heatsink.

what I was told too is.... you never ever want to move the console around with a disc in it... on or off... if you have to move it for whatever reason... always take the disc out first... same for the HD-DVD player...

Yeah.. That's an easy way to turn your game or movie into a coaster. The disk drive doesn't have clips to hold the disc in place, so if you move it while it is spinning at the high speed it will scratch the disk badly.

ahhh, that woudl explain it. bad heatsink connections would definitely cause that. I'm sure some factory workers lost their jobs for that one.

my

try to get a samsung drive. it'll be easier to mod if you want to go through that route. you can narrow the selection of drives based on the lot number.

http://www.360drives.com/list

check out that site, hopefully it'll help you find the right lot number. it helped me find mine.

Both will work, but if you change your mind do not move it when its on. The Disc will get the shit scratched out of it. And I dont know if your still looking, but Walmart has a deal right now that if you buy a premium bundle 360 at $399. They will give you a $50 gift card. That way you can get a Premium budle for $350. I dont know how long the deal will last though. http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2006/12...-50-gift-card/

How can I confirm whether my Xbox360 console is a first gen or a second gen. I've tried looking for some info behind the box, but I don't see anything. I bought my premium 360 from Craigslist brand new SEALED for $300 last month. I haven't noticed the console to get extremely hot or anything. Does anyone have an idea?
