youll get a million opinions every which way.

they're comparable systems with comparable performance.

get which ever one has more games you want to play.

Look at the exclusive titles, and what next gen video format you want (Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD). Go to a local retailer and try out each system. It may seem superficial, but the aesthetics of the controller and the system can impact the decision making process.

Lots of variables.

Do you have a budget?

Do you have a 1080p TV or do you plan on getting one?

What kind of games do you like?

etc...

I've had my 360 since launch day (over a year now), and this past Dec. I had the PS3 sittin' on my bedroom floor for almost a month, in the box, unopened... I ended up returning it, only because there's simply NO games out at the moment that interest me... well, actually... there are a couple, maybe 3... but they are ALL avaliable on the 360 as well... and having the PS3 sittin' there was causing me to have this conscience that, I was suppose to run out and get a 1080p TV for it... when I have a prefectly great Samsung DLP already... I WILL eventually buy a PS3 and I WILL eventually buy a 1080p TV too, but right now? I'm loving the 360

just the live gaming on the 360 alone is enough reason to get it... it's a WHOLE different gaming experience... and well worth it...

the 1080p question is inapplicable with Xbox 360 titles out and on the way in 1080p (Lost Planet for example) and PS3 titles out and on the way that won't be 1080p (MotorStorm, for example).

so both systems have 1080p titles and both have non-1080p titles. Same deal.

i have both. Havent played the ps3 since i beat resistance on every difficulty. Been playing 360 since i bought it though..

I want to sell the ps3, but i feel i will regret it once sony exclusive titles start to be released. If in a year the ps3 is still sucking, it gets the boot.

The 1080p question dealt more with the lack of HDMI on the 360.

It is my understanding that some 1080p TV's only allow the signal via HDMI.

Look at the game list and decide how much you want to spend and which games you want to play.

^ Most TVs only support TRUE 1080p via HDMI or VGA... so if you have the 360 hooked up via component, it's not TRUE 1080p since it's been through some conversions.

Nearly every 1080p has a VGA port, and if they do, they accept 1080p through it. The one exception is Sony's first generation SXRD's, but they don't take 1080p over ANY input... despite being 1080p displays. Ass backwards.

I went w/ the PS3, I just felt it was the better platform for me. Sure the game selection isn't the greatest right now, but I feel for my needs there is a lot comming forward. Right now I only own Tiger, Madden, and Resistance. Frankly, that's all I need. I also love the blue-ray DVD's. But I've watched HD DVD's as welll and have no complaints.

When it all really came down to it,t he reason I don't have a 360 is I hate that f'ing controller. I know, it's completely weird.

Good points and yours is a case where the aesthetics of the system, more importantly the controller, influenced your buying decision

Ironically, the controller was one of the main reason's I stayed away from the 360 as well. But after one of my friends picked it up, he kept ranting and raving about it (he lives in NY, so I had to take his word for it), and I finally gave in and got one.

And I'm glad I did. The 360 does so many things right and does them well. I've honestly become so spoiled by the little things it can do (like XBOX Live and the console navigation) that I don't know if I'll ever get a PS3 anytime soon...

PS - Now I like the X360 controller so much better then the PS3 design... and I've been a PlayStation guy since PS1 and had never even held an XBOX controller until the 360, so that tells you something.

yea, the whole console navigation and online features has spoiled me w/ the PS3 (the xbox isn't much different).

In all honesty, the biggest feature I've found is being able to start the system w/ the controller I'm slowly getting pissed that I now have to stand up to switch games. I can't wait for them to start making systems that fit 5-6 discs

these are definately one or the other consoles IMO. (although I have a guy at work that has both along w/ a WII; I don't see how I'd ever be able to play that many systems). It all comes down to what you'll enjoy more; I could have probably been just as happy w/ the 360.

BTW, we all had a conversation about PS3's sitting in large amounts at stores. My local BB got 80 thursday afternoon . I went by today to pick up a new optical cable, and every single one of them was gone. I couldn't believe it. It's a small tiny hard to find BB too.

I know... Make a system that can hold more discs or make the consoles cords way long so I dont have to get up...

If you had held the previous first gen xbox controller, you would have liked it....if you had Tony Robbins like Banana Hands

OK, whew... so I'm not the only one that loves the ability to turn on/off the console from the controller

But yeah, I agree... multi-discs all the way. We won't see that for a while though since BluRay and HD-DVD drives are still new. Maybe the next next-gen consoles will have them. In the meantime I'd be happy with the ability to just rip a game to the HD so I can play it right from there.

and shallow hal

but yea the first gen xbox 1 controller was WAY to big imo, when they redid it to suit the japanese crowd it was better but i dunno ive just come so accustomed to the playstation controller that i like it.

but what i do like about the 360 controller is that they got rid of those always hard to reach black and white buttons.

i really hope that sony brings back their rumbling controllers, felt so awkward paying GT:HD

Buying a video game console solely based on which next-gen movie format it plays is silly. What happens if BluRay fails? Then he's stuck with a defunct HD movie player and a struggling console...

The only reason i like my ps3 more is b/c the controller is just a bit lighter and easier on the hands...their both great systems....i really dont think you can go wrong with either. You just need to be patient and wait for some more titles to come out for the ps3.

^ I think the fact that the PS3 controller doesn't have the vibrating feature is what makes it lighter.

But I agree, the PS3 will be great too. Just may not be that great until later this year when more titles are out... but the 360 was the same way.

xbox 360.....

here are some reasons IMO

1. the controller, easy to use fits around your hand (not saying the ps3 doesnt) but for people to make a comment about the controller is just wrong, i ha dplaystations all my life and hated the original xbox controller but the 360 is great.
2. the wireles controllers of the ps3 feel a little bit more laggy to me esepcially while playign a shooter game, now supposedly the ps3 was supposed to take care of this even more than the 360 does but it just feels a little bit off to me.
3. the games paired with the system.. simply enough shooters arent meant for the ps3 the controller doesnt fit the type, no trigger on it. The 360 has the triggers and plays well for sports games too.
4. the online experience on the ps3 doesnt compare to that of the community on xbox live.

that alone should be enough reason. Live gaming is where it's at...

and, oh yeah.... I'm sure someone's going to bring up (again) that PS3's live gaming is free... well, in this case, you really get what you pay for...

Play Station loyalist here, couldn't consider anything else no matter what the reasons (may be dumb). I am the same way with cars. I either buy Jeeps or Honda/Acuras. I usually go back and forth between sporty and rugged. I guess you could do the same with PS3 (sporty) and XBox (rugged) but I think I would have to get the PS3 first and then, if I got bored with it, get the XBox.

^ I was a PS loyalist as well. In fact, if you go back into the PS3 thread you'll see I was singing it's praises, and dogging the 360 and Wii. Well, that was before the PS3 came out and before I had an X360.

Completely different story now. No way I'm going to be loyal to a product or company that is trying to screw me. The XBOX 360 is the first time I've ever even played an MS console, and right now the plans to get a PS3 have been suspended indefinitely unless Sony does a complete 180 and gets their act together.

that has got to be one of the oddest comparison/analogy I've ever read

if you get the PS3 first... then the 360 "when" you get bored, as of right now? since there's a lack of games with the PS3... you'll end up getting the 360 sooner than you know it...

I'm sure eventually the PS3 will catch up, but right now? There just really isn't anything worth bragging about

Hey is300eater, I was in Dana Pointe this past January at the Ritz-Carlton for a convention. I'll be back next Jan 4th. I tried to go out the last night but either I got a late start or everything closed early.

yeah, Dana Point's kinda a sleepy little coastal town, I say it's where the more mature couples go to raise a family... but can easily drive up to Laguna Beach for a better lively scene (10 minute drive).... or a little further north, you have Newport Beach...

Go with Xbox360 and wait for a price drop on PS3. $600 for a PS3 is not sustainable.

Just have a feeling that the Wii and 360 are going to be successful this generation and the PS3 might end up like the Sega Saturn unfortunately.
