XBOX 360 - Around $300

TheStreet conducted an interview with Microsoft's J. Allard, who revealed that final pricing for the Xbox 360 will be decided in a couple of months, but should be around the $300 mark:

Q: How much is the Xbox 360 going to cost?
Not sure. It's probably about two months away before we make the decision on that.

Q: The last Xbox went out at about $300 initially. Will the 360 be priced higher, lower?

It's going to be in the neighborhood.

It's not a definitive price, but close to $300 is sweet!

I read that somewhere too. Supposedly the game developers want to see if people were willing to pay an extra $5.00 for a "special edition" version of a hot game say like Halo2, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and Doom 3. If enough people were willing to pay a few dollars extra they may consider bumping the prices of all next generation games. Sony and Microsoft don't really make a profit on the systems. They make most of their money on the software. If anything, I think it was mentioned that Microsoft actually loses money on each Xbox they sell

On a few of the sites such as EBGames and Gamefly, some next-gen games are priced $59.00. I doubt they would be any more than $60 each

With one exception, I don't think I'd be too eager to buy games for $70. Don't think I have to tell you what the exception is

I would pay $70 only for selected few..like Halo 3. I would rather wait for the price to go under $40

59.99 is still too damn much.

Its crock...and no I dont buy the special edition of games...thats a huge waste of money too.

I don't like spending 50 bucks on a new games....but when a good one comes along i'll do it...50 doesnt seem so bad, its on par with computer games.

60 bucks.....they can all go fuck themselves.

Unless it's a must-have game, I rarely buy the games when they first get released....I wait a few months then buy them on the cheap.

Most N64 games were 60-70 dollars back in the day as well.

I don't like the price increase, but the cost of making new games are going way up. As the techology gets better, the cost to produce games goes up unfortunately. The estimated cost for an average next-gen game is supposed to be 10+ million.

The cartridges were also much more expensive to produce than the current compact disc type game though.

There's no way I can justify dropping a grand on my computer every couple years to stay current when consoles are this cheap. No games that don't work, no patches to download, just plug and play.

Buying $600 video cards is getting a little annoying, so I'll gladly put that money towards a 360 when they're available.

It's going to use the processor from the Apple PowerPC Chip. So unless you have an Apple, you won't be any XBox 360 parts using parts in your PC.

Yeah I haven't upgraded my computer in about 5 years. It still has a GeForce 2 GTS when they were "cool" lol

However, I did recently splurged and a iMac G5 (20" widescreen)

Xbox 360 price leaked claim

XNA not easy to program

By Aaron McKenna: Tuesday 02 August 2005, 11:00

ACCORDING to unconfirmed leaks from employees of the ubiquitous American retail giant Wal-Mart, the Xbox 360 is to go to retail at a price of $299.99 which is around what has been expected.

There's no confirmation of this from Microsoft, which has kept mum about the price and even exact launch date of the console.

Games are expected to retail above what we had hoped for, with big launch titles Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing3 marked at $59.99 by the Wal-Mart leaking.

The Wal-Mart "leak" is reported here, and the "XNA is a bitch to program for" is from an obviously unnamed source, but it’s credible.

While we’re in rumour mode there have been mumblings coming from developers about the ease of use of the XNA development system which Microsoft has touted up as simple as pie and much more flexible than Sony’s system. Of course developers will always complain and the proof will be in the pudding we suspect, but it’s a niggle. µ
