Windows Media Center and XBOX 360

I got myself a copy of Windows Media Center and loaded it this weekend and have since been messing around between it's features and the features between WMC and the 360..

Anyone else have both?

I don't but I'm really interested in trying it out. Did you connect your PC to your cable and use it as a Tivo device?

The benefit of the 360 is that you can have it in your media center, keep your PC to the side and stream the video wirelessly to the 360 and watch utilize the Tivo capabilities through your main TV. I like the functionality of Media Center, but I'd never want to put my PC in my living room.

Watcha wanna know?
I don't have it hooked up to the xbox.
I do record a ton of TV and XM radio (since I have DirecTV).

Link to a great website that has freeware for editing and converting DVRMS files.
http://www.thegreenbutton.com

Basically I edit out all the commericals then burn to dvd or to ipod format for archiving and viewing later.

Hey MOOG, need a favor, I got Ipod Vid, but it tells me that i need MPEG4 format or ipod formatt. I really didnt wana spend 30 buck (unless i really have to) on upgrading my Quicktime to PRO version were it lets me convert the vids..

What program can i use other than that to convert regular MPEG vids to MPEG4 or for IPOD Vidoe formatt?

thanks in advance.

There's more benefits then just that..

And I believe the principal behind it is to have the 360 your living room and have the computer with WMC on it in another room. They connect via the home network in your house.. But still have the functionality as they are connected..

Did it automatically detect the 360 and offer to connect it for you?

Hey, back to the topic, I've got a 360 and i've always been curious, if you have a media center PC, can you stream xvid content to your 360 in the other room? or is it limited to some M$ encoded or digital rights junk?

I've got 360 and a modded original xbox w/ xbmc, which anyone who's used it knows is a godlike app. Just hoping for xbmc-ish ability to stream videos. That might actually make me do the switch to Media Center edition so I can finally lay the xbox to rest.

Reach I haven't gotten that far with the streaming.. The furthest I've made it is streaming mp3's from a computer I have in my hallway to my 360 and then off the 360 while I play NBA. Which is pretty nice to have some decent music playing in the background of the game..

The capabilities are there but I don't know the extent. Which is why I created this thread, for people with the media center to share it's options..

If you send me or give me some links to different XVids I will test it out..

Well, when you use the streaming capabilites on the 360, you can stream music and photos off an XP box with the addition of a little M$ addon called "Windows Media Connect". However, if you want to stream videos, you MUST have Media Center Edition installed. Really this just seems like a bunch of bullhockey from M$ again to make you purchase another flavor of their OS for maximum compatibility.

So, long before I do down that road, I want to know how robust the video streaming capabilities are. The truth is I haven't looked into it much yet, just thought yall with both MCE and 360s would have tried it. I'm guessing the capabilites are limited. I'd like to hear any reports from people who have used this feature.

I feel ya.. But in all honesty I like MCE Alot better then XP Pro..

Personally I just got my 360 a week or so ago and just got MCE.. And there's a thousand features and many things to test out and toy around with.. If you want something specifically just give me what you want tested..

Use nero recode 2.
Search in Ramblings for Ipod video...in one of the thread I put up link where you can download it for free. Use the PSP profile in Nero Recode and you are golden!

PM me if you have questions. Nero recode is the easiest way I've found to convert...and it converts everything so far.

Try ATI HDTV one or the regular if you don't want it to pickup HDTV channels.

Good to hear.
Now head over to the greenbutton and go to the download center and get a program called DVR-edit...and edit out all the commercials of the shows you record.

If you go to Microsofts site and go to the Media Center it will give you a list of compatible video cards..

For those of you running MCE, would you mind posting some details?

1) What Video Card are you using?
2) What Display are you using?
3) What connection type between them? (VGA DVI, HDMI, Component Video, S-Video)
4) What TV Tuner/Capture Card are you using?
5) Cable or Sat Tuner Box involved?
6) What Remote do you use? What Kind of IR Device on the MCE does the remote talk to?

Thanks

I have a Harmony 880 coming as soon as Amazon processes the return on a 680 I got as a gift for Xmas.
I got a Hauppauge PVR 350 as a gift as well, only to find out after I opened it that its not supported by MCE. Gonna try and exchange it somewhere for either a 500 or for a pair of 150MCEs (If you have a reccomendation as to why I should use something else, feel free to speak up)

Xbox 360 and WMC works great

I've 360 and have high end VAIO RA842G with 500 GB SATA running WMC. I had to download Win Media Connect on my PC and hooked it up with the 360. The whole process took about 30 mins. I can stream all my audio/videos/pictures on my TV and speaker system in family room TV since I've put 360 as a replacement to my DVD player.

To answer Casper;
1) Nvidia GeForce 6600, 256 MB
2) I use my panny 56" TV for 360 and Dell 20" wide screen for PC
3) Component from my 360 to TV and toslink for receiver
4) I use Sony's Gigapocket TV/Tuner
5) It has a connection for TV/Cable/Sat in but have not connected currently but have in the past and can use it as DVR.
6) I use the Sony's WMC IR remote

Ahhh, so you dont have the MCE box directly connected to a TV, its just on an LCD Monitor. Thanks for the details.

Bump..

Is Anyone using this setup? I'm getting an error trying to playback WMV files.

Video Error
Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer.

I've obvioulsy done both and nothing. The files were originally avi's that were converted to WMV. May that be the problem?
