transferring game data
Hello gamers, this is my first time posting in console and computer gaming. But my question is i am thinking of selling my launch model ps3 60gb to a friend of mine. (that thing is still running great) but thinking of upgrading to a 120gb or higher gb slim ps3. Have any of you gamers tried to transfer your data, game saves, and trophies to the new ps3 and if so how do i do that? I read in ps3 forums that people try to do that and that can take hours and about a thirds way through it will get interupted etc etc.
If I were you I'd just upgrade the hard drive assuming you still play PS2 games since the new ones don't have backwards compatibility and less USB slots (4 to 2). Then again new PS3 is new warranty.
When I upgraded my hard drive from 40 to 320 you first have to back up your game data to an external hard drive unless you have a really big flash drive. It takes a long time to back up, then transfer to the new drive. If you get a new PS3 you won't have to take out the drive but you'll have to plug in your external hard drive to the new PS3 via USB. I can explain here how to do it but the best thing is go to You Tube and see the vids of it actually done. I had a hell of a time installing the drive because of the screws being a pain.
Plus you might need to download the latest firmware from the Sony site even though you have the newest one on the new machine. I had to do that as well as it was a common transfer issue. No biggie, just an extra step.
