I'll probably be waiting several years before I get a PS3, and I'll probably buy used, so that I don't have to pay a dollar for every car/track that I want to have in the game.

How did you get that HD DVD lost "the format war" from an Amazon page?

People who are looking for a cheap Blu-Ray player will buy a PS3, the base model now costs less than 420 USD there. Thats cheaper than any other HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players in the market.

9 of the top 10 pre-order list are Blu-Ray movies, and they aren't Blu-Ray exclusives.

Ok, it's your opinion that HD DVD lost the "war". There is no fact to this effect.
Granted Sony Blu-Ray sales are huge winners in Japan....time will tell if the PS3 /Bluray strategy works. It's for sure a good strategy to link Bluray to the PS3...no doubt.....risky.....yes.

It will become a fact sooner or later...unless people can buy the 360 HD-DVD drive for just 50 bucks in Japan.

Well here in North America, it will take at least 2 or 3 years until we can find out who wins.

Sony is feeling the heat. I kinda feel bad for them. In Japan they will be second to Nintendo, and in America they are facing an uphill battle with Microsoft. Plus the PSP is a failing piece of hardware. The PSP kinda messed their image up as of late.

If the next gen Discs (HD DVD and Bluray) become a single world standard...similar to VHS vs Betamax where VHS became the world standard so to speak, then it doesn't matter what Japan alone thinks of Bluray, and it doesn't matter what Europe or NA think of Bluray....in the end what the majority of the world goes with will be the standard. If bluray wins then the Japanese will be happy...if hd dvd wins...then there are going to be alot of unhappy Japanese people that will have to ditch their bluray players and buy new hd dvd.

Perhaps dual format players will help in the short term, but I believe in the end one of the two formats will win out, and the other will die. Who will win remains to be seen.

Well, one lesson about a Sony media that kinda did well in Asia (and Japan) but flubbed everywhere is the Minidisc. So, yeah...Asian popularity of course doesn't necessarily translate to global standard...

We'll see...
