The Sims 3 :what:
The Sims 3 :what:

Just saw a commercial for it.
Comes out tomorrow (6-2-2009).
Anyone else think this series has been overdone?
I had a lot of fun with the original one, and even played the second a couple times (my sister has that one).
I don't think they know when to stop though.
There is more expansion packs for it than a Catholic family has kids. (At least Sims 1 and 2....nothing suggests they won't follow suit for this one)

Been playing around with it for the past two weeks.. its kinda fun (still)
In the original, I made what I call an orphanage. Lots of kids, lots of stoves/ovens and no smoke detector.
The path to the front door was only accessible through a hedge maze, so the fire department never reached there in time.
I should see a doctor..

I was a big fan of both SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4. There were definitely quirks with both...some big turn offs, but overall, I loved that game.
But SimCity 4 was released, what....like 5, 6 years ago?
Time for a new one.
SimCity Societies doesn't count either.

Simcity Societies SUCKED.
I loved Simcity 2000 and 3000 especially, 4 was ok. It had some good ideas but it crashed a lot. If they bothered to update it and fix the stability, I'd be fine with it today.
They need a way of seamlessly integrating maps of actual places so you can simulate your own town/city or backyard easier.

The direction I saw them taking SimCity in was creating SimCity as the hub of their platform. Engineer a city that can spawn off into many, MANY other platforms. They began this concept with SimCopter where you build your city with simcity, load that same city into simcopter and you can fly missions through your constructed city.
They could have further pushed this concept to say an Emergency vehicles version, Sim Taxi (which I think they made), SimPlane, SimTrain, SimTransport. There are so many simulator scenarios they can have spawned off with this. And with the ever growing mobile platform development, who knows what other avenues it could have taken.
I never understood why companies ditch items that have already proven to be succesful. Then again it was after EA bought Maxis that SimCity started going downhill. Anything EA touches tends to do that.

SimCity 4 never crashed on me.
3000 did alot though once you got your city really big.
