rFactor... the most realistic and customizable driving simulator

Forget Gran Turismo or Forza Motosport, when it comes to hardcore simulation, PC takes the crown. I just got the game "fFactor". For those of you who are into racing games, it is the guys who created the exellent "Sportscar GT" years ago.

Anywy, this game rocks, very very realistic (of course you can tune it down), the amount customization is amazing, you can pretty much adjust everything you want.

Well, you can't buy this game in store, have to buy it from the website:

http://www.rfactor.net/

or go to the company website:

http://www.imagespaceinc.com/

But I think it is worth it.

Although the game doesn't come with lots of cars of tracks, but this game is built ground up for mod communities. So I'd expect loads of cars and tracks soon.

Check it out.

thanks for the link, this is the first I'm hearing of this game... although it looks like its been in development for over a year. Looks like GTR is not alone in the new-skool racing sim genre anymore - which is GOOD. I used to play Sports Car GT a lot back in the day and loved it - it's refreshing to see they have an "updated" entry for this genre. I also like how its geared towards the mod community out of the box. That shows foresight, they know ppl are gonna mod it anyway.

btw... there is no argument here that PC's don't offer the most realistic racing simulation experiences.. they definitely do.

I was paying close attention to rFactor right up through its release. IIRC there were tons of bugs reported for the first couple of months so I pretty much stopped paying attention to it. I may have to look into it again now that it's had some time to mature.

Of course, I can't really drive much of anything since my Logitech Momo wheel seems to have bit the dust.

The cables/belts/whatever for the FF still work, but I just get these aweful grinding noises and very little axis movement when I turn the wheel. I'm guessing that some nylon gears stripped or some such. It may be repairable but I'm not sure how much effort I want to go through to perform the exploratory surgery.

The little devil sitting on my shoulder is telling me to get a new Driving Force Pro and a set of ECCI pedals.

ic... damn. you must have given it a good run because those things are pretty much the best-built (consumer) wheels available.
