Check it out! It isn't only Nintendo selling branded SD cards for the Wii!

Rock Band is doing it too!

Sure there are suckers that will purchase the Wii branded memory cards, but as svtmike said I highly doubt the profit margin is any larger (on the contrary most likely less) than your typical memory card.

Think about it this way. If you buy a plain gray short sleeve cotton polo shirt and it cost $20. Now think about the same shirt but with "Acura" embroidered on the chest. The company that did the embroidering had to buy the shirt, spend the labor and material on the embroidery, pay shipping costs to their retailer, and make a profit... etc etc

^ The only thing I have ever read that would lead me to want to buy gold plated cables is if the connections on my AV equipment were gold plated. Putting gold plated cables on non gold plated connections is supposed to be bad. Something about dissimilar metals causing corrosion. Of course I have never seen this occur.

^^^

yes when you have to dissimilar metals together corrosion occurs its called galvanic i believe. this isn't only cause by putting them together. you have to have exposure to elements or electric current. this is why you find corrosion on your car battery terminals. also metal crap laying outside or untreated frame work the first place to get corroded will be around any bolts/screws as its almost guaranteed they are diff materials. as an avionics tech i have to know all about corrosion.

I still think the lowest-of-the-low sales pitches I heard for HDMI cables went like this (I overheard a slimy salesman trying to con some 50-year-old woman into this):

Salesman - "Ma'am, you've heard of digital before, right?"
Customer - "Yes"
Salesman - "So you know that digital uses 0's and 1's to carry a signal to your new HDTV?"
Customer - "I didn't know that's what it was, but thanks!"
Salesman - "The thing with these new Monster Cables is that they are able to not only carry the 0's and 1's, but they also carry the 2's that will be used in the next few months. That means better picture quality, and you won't have to buy new cables in a few months!!"
Customer - "Gee that sounds great!"

I kid you not, these salespeople and their outrageous claims DO in fact sell snake oil to customers on a daily basis. Unfortunate but true.
