Question for gaming nerds...

How much will the following run me and where can I get it cheapest:

Playstation 3 w/2controllers
HD-DVD/BluRay add on module or whatever
Guitar Hero III w/Guitar (or two guitars if you can you play 2 player?)
Ratatouille Game and maybe 1 other kiddie game (suggest one?)

Got a good bonus on an acquisition and a gonna indulge my sister's kids for Xmas...as well as get them a HD DVD player(for my sister and my brother in law).

But do I really wan't a PS3...would a Wii be better for the kids? They are 5 and 7 but play a regular PS2 just fine with kiddie games.

uhhhh buy a bundle from costco, its cost effective and easy. You get a game (maybe 2), extra control and a memory card, and some other accessories. The BluRay player is built into the console so youre good to go with that. The movie, i guess walmart would be the cheapest but i would never shop there and would be more then happy to pay more at another store. Same deal with Guitar Hero, ive seen two player bundles around but didnt pay much attention, dont like that game. And remember, Ebay is your friend ... sometimes...

good link, they might be offering the 30 gig bundle for less now at the store since the price dropped...

edit: no memory card but yes on the second game. And they have an offer for five free blueray movies, not through costco so you could use it regardless of where you buy it from. theres a link to the rebate form on the link i provided...

If the kids are 5 and 7, I'd recommend a Wii instead of a PS3...the games for the former are more appropriate for their age category; that and the fact that the PS3 really has few games out that are kid-centric.

But if you want to be the cool uncle getting them a more young adult oriented system then get the PS3... the PS3 did drop in price... last I saw was at best buy for $400 bucks <~~~ click there! 40 gig PS3... the 80 gig is $100 more...

I'd say for what you want... you would be spending about $600 or below... Thats the PS3 $400... Guitar Hero III with 1 Guitar $80... and an extra guitar $60... and an extra controller $50... for a total of $590.00 you can probably save a couple dollars shopping around different places for better prices... I wouldn't get a bundle because you'll be getting ripped off $100 bucks the guitar hero bundle...

Is the PS3 even worth getting yet for the money? Ive heard there is only a few good games for it, which could very well be wrong. I only play PS2 often, but I only play like 3 games (Madden, NBA Live, GTA San Andreas). I have the first xbox but i havent turned that on in ages.

Wii is also cheaper, I have the Wii and PS3 and XBox360, but don't forget PS3 plays PS2 games.

But also Wii has Guitar hero 3, and if you buy it your kids should like Wii Sports, its fun, it has bowling, boxing, tennis and baseball in one game, although its just to play around with, there isnt a such thing as winning the game.

and also, with the money saved from buying the Wii... there's still money left for a separate stand-alone HD-DVD player... but no quite a Blu Ray player tho...

oh brother, I think I'm a gaming nerd

^ It's okay. You're chink...it's in your blood to game. And oh, you should also be naturally gifted at 2D fighting games (i.e. Street Fighter 2).
