Thumbs up PS3: Virtua Tennis 3...

===========

Next-gen tennis title slated for Sony's next machine.

April 25, 2006 - In a joint announcement made by SEGA Europe and SEGA America just moments ago, Virtua Tennis 3 was officially confirmed to be in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Developed by AM2 Studios (Virtua Fighter 4, Shenmue II), Virtua Tennis 3 is said to have the best visuals in the series so far, and will reportedly show off player-specific mannerisms and behaviors unique to their personalities. Facial expressions and improvements to the AI are also planned.

"The familiar depth of the Virtua Tennis franchise returns with improvements that can only be fully realized on next-gen systems," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Great pick-up and playability, life-like details, and incredible physics are benchmarks of the series and will make Virtua Tennis 3 the standard by which all tennis games are judged."

Game details are still rather vague, but SEGA has revealed that Virtua Tennis 3 will include a world-traveling Career Mode that allows them to take on top stars from all over the sport, while player creation modes, officially licensed tennis equipment, and a multitude of mini-games brought over from previous versions have been incorporated as well (there will be new mini-games too).

SEGA will reveal more on Virtua Tennis 3, which is slated for release next spring (2007), at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo to be held in Los Angeles this May. To view the game's very first screenshots, click on the media page below.

great to hear, looks more life-like than Top Spin 2, at least from the screenshots. Esp look at the last picture - it looks amazing.

Well seeing how nobody has played VT3, I don't think we can answer that question yet. BUT just predicting from Sega's proven track record with the 1st 2 editions of VT, I am quite sure VT3 will be a great-playing and obviously great-looking game. And judging from these screenshots, it looks arguably better than Top Spin 2.

I have Top Spin 1 for the Xbox and have Sega Tennis for the Dreamcast...and I prefer the latter.

Also own VT for the PSP and it's taken over from Lumines as my fave game.

Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast is one of the best games of all-time, imo.
