PS3 Online via Ethernet Cable Question

OK so I searched for about 30 min on this one and couldn't find anything detailed enough to help me.

I've had my PS3 for almost a year now and I'm finally aching to hook it up to the internet to download content for GH3. The problem is that I can't get the damn thing to hookup to the internet via the ethernet cord. I am trying to us the Ethernet out on my HD digital cable box as a modem (will this even work? I tired doing it with my regular internet modem but that didn't work either). Every time I try to connect or establish the IP address it says "Failed". I called my cable company to see if they could give me my IP address manually but they said they don't support this kind of thing so I hung up on them... unfortunalty its not the 1st time I've done that, Charter Cable SUCKS.

Anyway, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I don't even care if it's not a perminant hook up... just want to get on to download some more songs to play on GH3 since I beat the game in 3 days (only on hard, not expert).

Thanks.

Yeah, I don't think doing exactly that is possible, Usually they only let you hook up 1 modem per account, as far as internet goes anyway.
Your better off plugging it back into your cable modem and trying that again. You may need to power cycle the cable modem and the ps3 after you plug them both in. I don't know jack as far as the ps3 in concerned though.

Uhmm... you hung up on them after they gave you a perfectly good answer. Call back and apologize.

Get a router and be done with it.

I had a problem connecting my 360 to x-box live. All I did was power cycle the modem and it works like a charm.

Get a linksys router and share the connection. if you are going to be cheap, that just try power cycling the modem each time you move it from one device to another.

haha... you have no idea who Charter Cable is... I've never had anything but problems with them. They have the ISP address for my cable box they just don't want to give it to me because thats 1 less modem they could potentially rent out to me at $15.99 a month.

I'm not being cheap... I have a linksys router upstairs in my office. I dont have the PS3 with the wireless function so I can't do it that way. I tired bringing up my PS3 to the office and connecting it not only to the router but to the modem directly and it still didn't work.

Anyone do this with the linksys router specifically and have any tips or know how to find the ISP and all that info manually?

By a router, they are like $50. Or get a wireless one and use your PS3s build in wireless to connect it. Simple.

Missed the 5 min rule: I just saw post about your PS3 with no wireless.

Glad you fixed it :-)
