PS3: Netflix PS3 App Ditches Disc, Adds HD and Surround Sound

SWEEEEEEEET!!

Netflix PS3 App Ditches Disc, Adds HD and Surround Sound

PlayStation 3 just leapfrogged Xbox 360 and snagged the best Netflix experience on a videogame console yet.

The new Netflix application for PS3, rolling out for download Monday, will enable Netflix subscribers with PS3s to watch movies and TV without a disc. Some titles will even stream in 1080i HD and 5.1 digital surround sound.

I just got the Email this AM and Downloaded it a few min ago. It works well. I like it much better than the disc. The onscreen guide/interface is a little different too. Its also seems faster now.

one of the better (the best?) PS3 related news in a while.

a good step in a POSITIVE direction, rare thing for Sony.

I always wondered why you needed a stupid disc to watch streaming media, in 2010. TWO THUMBS UP!!!!!

No wonder I could not get my Netflix to work for the past week. I tried and id everything that threads said from resting clearing BD data I thought it was my game unit but it played both BL disk and regular DVDs. My nest option was order a new disk but my co worker got an email about this so I tried it and it works now..Its only about 3-4 months overdue.

The reason the disc was needed was because of the Exclusive Microsoft/Netflix agreement.

The Agreement expired this past weekend, so now the PS3 and Wii are Disc-less as far as netflix is concerned.

Not completely sold on the no-disk version...probably just need to get used to the look/feel of it. It seemed like it had more button pushes to do some tasks.

I've got the three DVDs at a time with BD package (includes unlimited streaming), and it's $22.xx with taxes. I think a one DVD at a time, no BD, and unlimited streaming package is $8.99. BD is $3. They have several other plans. Check out their site (blocked at work for me).

I've never had a problem with streaming, even HD. I just have regular cable internet at home.

My ps3 wont turn off everytime i watched movies from netflix... i noticed it a week after i upgrade firmware and installed netflix apps... Does anyone know how to fix this? I can only turn off my system if i hold the reset button for 10 secs...

I dont know if this is firmware issue (3.5 firmware) or netflix issue.
