Performance Designed Products, otherwise known as PDP, announced today that they had acquired U.K. and China-based developers In2Games, which specializes in motion-controlled gaming tech. Through their acquisition of the In2Games, PDP has gained rights to the developer's proprietary ultrasonic technology, which claims to provide unparalleled motion tracking in 3D space. In2Games' GameTrak Freedom, which is set to debut in 2009, will be among the first motion tracking control systems for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Through the use of 3-axis accelerometers and two dedicated sensor bars, the GameTrak Freedom reflects the precise position and orientation of the controller in 3D space.

The GameTrak Freedom, which performs like Wiimote and looks like a Nunchuck, will be hitting stores in 2009, although a precise date has not been specified. The controller will herald a whole new series of games for the high-powered next-gen consoles. The first release will be and internal franchise from In2Games called Squeeballs. The game will consist of a series of mini-games that will showcase the 3D performance of the GameTrak Freedom control system. But PDP has plans beyond the mini-game limitations of Squeeballs, according to John Moore, Vice President of Marketing for PDP.

"We are planning a coordinated launch with other titles from participating publishers and developers that will position PDP's Gametrak Freedom technology as the standard for the industry," Moore said.

It would seem that PDP is actively pursuing integration with 3rd party developers, however, details regarding which firms and a tentative release schedule remain unannounced.
