PS3 1080i issue

Does anyone know if the PS3 issue with downscaling games to 480p that are programmed in 720p instead of scaling them to 1080i on TVs that only do 1080i/480Pp has been resolved?

not sure... but the latest firmware allow upscaling to 1080p so if u have a 1080p tv, it wont be a problem

Well, that's my whole issue. I have a 6 year old Sony CRT TV that only does 1080i. And when released, the PS3 did not internally scale games that were not programmed for 1080i.

I thought the issue was taken care of. If not, that truly sucks for the non 1080p guys.

If you read about the firmware update here, http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/ne...304&LINK=PS3SU, it doesn't address this issue. I know it says it will scale non HD DVDs and PS1 and PS2 games, but doesn't address the 1080i scaling issue.

Just wondering if a previous update might have fixed it.

im not sure about 1080i, but ive read that bluray movies that are at 1080p/i used to be downscaled to 480p on 720p sets, but with the 1.80 update it can be scaled down to 720p, so maybe?

So will the ps3 games work or how it look on a non 1080p TV with HDMI input?. My Sony support only 480p,720p and 1080i. Which setting do i set it to when connected to PS3 or xbox Elite. thanks.

yes it will work - there are certain games such as nba which is in 1080p but im sure it can downconvert

most other ps3 games are 720p or 1080i such as RFOM (720p) and Motorstorm (1080i)

The whole 1080i issue is that the PS3 cannot downconvert to 1080i. Games only work in 1080i if they were specifically written to do so.

I haven't looked into it in the last couple of months, so it could be fixed.

I hope you are right, because that issue is the main reason I haven't bought a PS3 yet.

plug your ps3 back into your tv, set it to the regular RCA output.

I actually haven't dealt with a PS3, so I am not sure on the connections or the menu system. However, on a dvd player that is set for progressive scan (which requires a component video connection) you can connect a wire from the green port on the dvd player to the yellow composite video port on a tv, and you will get a grayscale picture that is somewhat distorted, but enough to see an image and get into the menu. Like I said, I am not familiar with the connections on the PS3, so I am not sure if this would work in this instance. If it has the correct ports, give it a shot.
